"Smokey and the Bandit" Props

"Dere is no way... NOOOOO WAYYYYY... dat you could cuhm fruhm MAH LOINS..... Da first thing ah'm gonna do when we get home is punch yo' momma in da mouth!!"

Another fan here, too!!!
My dad has been a trucker since the 70s, so I grew up with a lot of that culture around.
Loved Convoy too, but that's another thread.

"Eastbound and down, loadin' up and truckin'
We're gonna do what they say can't be done.
We got a long way ta go an' a short time ta get there,
We're Eastbound, just watch ol' Bandit ruuuuuuuuun!!!"

Love Smokey and the Bandit since I saw it in the theater. My dad and his friends were also into CBs in the 70's.

Great collection. It really made me smile.

"You have a great profile".
"Yeah, I do, don't I? Especially from the side."

I also remember playing the soundtrack record over and over again and my brother and myself would mimic along with all the CB dialog on the soundtrack that was lifted from the movie.

Yeah, I still do that...(but don't tell anybody:)). In fact, I was able to download some of the soundtrack music from the same website where I'd found those earlier pictures of the Burt Reynolds Museum. Here is the link for anybody who might be interested. http://www.popjunkie.com/exclusivebanditmp3s.html

Okay...when sombody says "Smokey and the Bandit", what is the first, most iconic prop from that movie that you can think of? Well guess what?!!...I don't have it yet. But I do have the second most iconic prop! (Alright, maybe 37th most iconic, but I'm gettin' there.:)) That's right! "The Snowman's" Unisonic 790R calculator! (Calm down everyone...don't get yourselves overly excited.) So without further ado, here it is...

I saw a six pack of pop top Coors at the flea market this weekand and thought about this thread.

Jeez, I think I used to have one of those calculators, or at least a similar model from that series.

That wouldn't surprise me at all. Apparently, Unisonic had several different models out in the 70's that were cosmetically similar to one another. That's one of the things that made tracking down this particular calculator so difficult. I'd actually been looking for one for about 2 or 3 months when I finally came across this one.

I built my dad a trans am. It's obviously inspired by smokey and the bandit but it's not an exact replica.

Great thread. I think I started a similar one a few years ago that never went anywhere. :lol

Like many of us I grew up dreaming of owning a properly pinstriped T/A (or the The General of course...). Then I kinda totally forgot about it until the late 90's when it suddenly dawned on me that I could actually afford to make that childhood dream come true. I was actually driving a '94 Trans Am at the time and had this crazy stroke of luck. I came across a completely original 1977 Trans Am Special Edition. It wasn't completely screen-accurate since the interior was RED but it had almost no miles on it. A couple nerve-wracking weeks passed as I sold the '94 hoping that the '77 would still be there. Luckily, the guy was in no hurry and new how much I wanted it, so the day after I sold my '94 I hopped a train (!) to go buy that '77.

Funny thing is, I ended up selling it after THREE MONTHS! I don't know... maybe it was a case of the chase being better that the catch, or maybe I was just too used to the much more powerful '94 (which kinda felt like driving the Batmobile at night...) but is just didn't feel right somehow. I still owned different Trans Ams for the next few years though... and eventually began to regret selling the 77... kinda.

That sounds like a beauty! Do you happen to have any pictures of it that you could show off?

Threads like these reaffirm why I LOVE this board!

Don't have any S&TB props but my grandfather was a trucker in the 70's and took me to see the movie umpteen times. Great memories!!!

Keep the stuff coming, can't wait to see more.(y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Although not an actual prop I owe my car choice to this film. I loved the movie and that translated into a love of the Trans Am. My favorite ended up being the 79 (I like the nose better) but it was not a model used in any of the films (in part 2 he had a 1980 which was the same nose, but with the turbo hood- which I don't like.)
So this last year I decided to buy a car to restore into a daily driver with some style. Something I could afford, that was made before they started putting computers in cars, that did not have fuel injection, and that I would want to drive. The answer was easy, a 79 Trans AM.
It took me awhile to find the one I wanted, An automatic, with T-tops and no power windows, and to find a 400 to rebuild to put in it (in 79 most came with a 403 Oldsmobile motor, but they really should have a Pontiac heart, so that is what it will have.)
She is still not on the road - I gave myself a year to fix her up, rebuilding the engine, doing some bodywork and just finished gutting the interior at the moment, but it is well on the way. I will likely paint her Black when I finish, although I have to say the Brown in fairly rare and it has grown on me a bit.
No matter what these films brought this great line of cars to my attention and made me a fan for life.
Here is a pic (sitting high in the front because there is no motor in it)

That must have been fun for you to see it with him "on the big screen". I only ever got to see it on television (multiple times,of course :)) when ever it would come on as a kid. It definitely gave me an interest in trucking (as an impressionable youth:angel), that probably played a part in me getting into it as a career choice. (I guess I'm too easily swayed by movies.) :lol
