"Smokey and the Bandit" Props

I thought I would post some updated shots of my small, but growing "Smokey and the Bandit" collection, in order to show off my latest acquisition: a Pace CB-166 radio, just like the one used in the Trans-Am by Burt Reynolds. (I also included some screenshots from the movie for comparison). Now all I need to do is convince my wife to let me trade in our mini-van for a 1977 Pontiac Trans-Am...:)

Excellent! I've been trying to figure out what the model of CB is for some time. I've been collecting communications props - I'm also a ham radio operator, so it seemed natural for me. Your've got a great collection of items there.

Nice collection you have there.

I had a 77 Tranny and it was the funnest car I had besides my Old Willy's!

True story - I met with Burt Reynolds a few years ago and he is one of the funniest, craziest and most intriguing people you'd ever want to meet. The meeting went from a 30min get to know to a 3 hour laugh festival. He told us the story of how after Smokey came out he was called to meet with the Trans-am people, they really rolled out the red carpet for him - not only was he the biggest star on the planet at the time, but everything he touched, hats, boots, belts - all of them rose in sales with his endorsement. and Pontiac wanted him in their cars both on and off the screen. He was told by the president that for all the business he brought (and would bring them) that along with a heafty paycheck he would receive 1 free Trans-Am every year for life. So true to word every year Burt would get a free car delivered to his home every year like clockwork - then sometime in the late 80's the cars stopped coming. He immediately called Pontiac and said
"I'm not trying to look ungrateful for everything you guys have done for me - but I didn't get my car this year"
The voice on the other end asked "Why would you think you'd be getting a free car this year?"
Burt replies "Well, the President told me I'd be getting 1 free car for life"
"Yeah, he meant HIS life. He died a week ago - no more cars.":wacko:lol

Bait and switch.
Go wild about getting a Kenworth then capitulate and "settle" for the Trans-Am.

Ingenious! So diabolical, yet so simple! :love
Seriously though, thanks for all of the comments guys. (It's not easy "outing" myself publicly as a closet Smokey & the Bandit fan:)). Also, I'm always on the lookout for other "Bandit" related prop ideas if any of you have any suggestions. I found these photos online that someone had apparently taken at a Burt Reynolds museum in Florida. (Check out those boots!) So many tacky props...so little time...

You should really have a can of Coors in your display. One of the old tan cans with the oval logo and twin lions. (I am also a fan of the movie, as well as the Gator flicks and CannonBall Run)

You need to fly down one weekend and I'll take you on the tour of the movie spots...I live in the center of it all....and I do mean ALL!

....and Yes, Im serious if you want to come down :lol

Classic movie! I remember when i was a kid and my dad and i went and saw it in the theater (multiple times). I also remember playing the soundtrack record over and over again and my brother and myself would mimic along with all the CB dialog on the soundtrack that was lifted from the movie.

Thanks for posting!

I built my dad a trans am. It's obviously inspired by smokey and the bandit but it's not an exact replica.

That is FANTASTIC! :thumbsup (Say,...your dad wouldn't happen to be in the market for a swe-e-e-t ass mini-van, would he? No? Oh well...). That is definitely on my future Bandit-prop "want" list...along now with a can of Coors. (I have a hunch that the can of Coors will come first...):)

Holy Moly on the car rebuild...WOW!

Hey Adam,
Where did you get the "Truckers Do it" patch?
You might not believe it but some of us old Trekkies and Warsies (LOL) are also long time Smokey and the Bandit fans...

I actually was a truck driver for a couple years...

"I'm off to get some clam chowder..bye, bye."

I'll second that Holy Moly! Man, that is an incredible amount of skill that went into that car! I am truly impressed.:thumbsup (By the way, please, don't anybody consider anything "Smokey & the Bandit 1, 2 or 3"/ Trans-am/ or trucking related to be thread highjacking. Let's use this as a dumping ground for such things, shall we?:cheers) Hey Sporak, who did you drive for? Were you over the road? I'm currently driving a gasoline tanker hauling fuel in upstate New York. By the way, I got the "Snowman" vest patches off of e-bay. It looks like the guy still has a couple of sets left. http://cgi.ebay.com/Smokey-and-the-Bandit-Snowmans-Truckers-Patch-W-Flag_W0QQitemZ310191531567QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4838db262f#ht_500wt_977

Thanks for the link... :)
I drove for TSMT Tri State over the road and Ryder For Motorcraft semi locally before that.

Goin' 10-10 on the sides 10-4?
