Slitting EVA foam

Has anyone ever hot-wire slit EVA foam?

I have a Sleeping Mat that I want to cut cleanly in half.


A little colonial marine armour padding..

I think I know what kind of foam you are talking about - Can't you just use a new razor blade?

In half? Do you mean half thickness? Why not buy thinner material. Try here: http://www.foamorder.com/closedcell.html


As far as hot wire, I do't know, but I don't see why not. I would try it on a samle first, and be sure to work in a well ventilated area.

The foam pad is 19in wide x 72in long x 5/8in thick.

Not easily (cleanly) slit in half.

I'm using it for colonial marine armor, it has the correct grid pattern on it.

Some foams give off cyanide gas if you hot knife them. BE CAREFUL.

Never heard of EVA foam.

how about soaking it in water and then using 60 grit on an electric sander. When you mess up the first half send the second half my way:love Seriously PM how you did it as I hopefully will be facing the same dilema.
