Slave Leia bra

I know it's a little cliche for a forum that has so many delightfully obscure and creative costumes, but I really want to add a Slave Leia cosplay to my roster.

I'm wondering if anyone here has made one? And if you're up for it, maybe a brief description of the process? (To be honest I'm mostly concerned about the bra part. I'd prefer to avoid just gluing foam strips to an old bra; I want it to look as authentic as possible without access to a metalshop.)

I have no time limit on this, it's just something I'd like to pick away at :)

Thanks!

No exactly Slave Leia but the construction would be the same, mashing up Slave Leia from Ep VI and Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad. Essentially the Leia bikini with Harley's Bat moded to be Star Wars centric, for my daughter's cosplay at Anime Expo.

Materials: 1/4" craft foam, Weldwood contact cement
Paint: Tamiya PS-15, Tamiya PS-19, PlastiDip white spray, Rustoleum Primer - grey

Bikini top was two layers of 1/4" craft foam. Bottom layer, in red in the picture below was the structure of the bikini, the blue layer was glued on after cutting and laying out the pattern. Find a standard chest armor tutorial, which, in short is taking a template of your chest, or the chest in question, then forming the cups, and in this case, contact cementing them together in the middle. That forms the structure of the bikini, to make the lines, the raised part in her bikini, create a paper or foil template of the squiggle lines and cut our of another layer of 1/4" craft foam.

At this point I would seal and paint the craft foam and glue the pieces together. You could use foam on the bottom and worbla on the top, depending on how rigid you want the bikini, all foam will allow a bit more flex. All worbla will be a bit more rigid.

Your starting point is a foam chest armor tutorial. . . Evil Ted Smith (youtube and facebook) has a good, easy to follow tutorial

It's a bit of a late reply (you did say you had no time limit!) but hopefully this will be of some help to you. I made a Slave Leia Bikini a while back out of latex, as I had a ton of it on hand, plus a rubber (and metal) bikini was used in the movie (so a latex one seemed like a safe bet) and I also didn't have access to a metalshop. I'm still fairly happy with it today, though I would have changed how I painted it.

I have a full giant tutorial up on Instructables on how to make it, but in a (hefty) nutshell:

I made a plaster-of-paris-strips mold of my body, then poured (2-part) foam into that - so I had a body double. Make sure to spray a release agent into the plaster of paris mold so you can get the foam body out.

I sculpted the bikini parts onto the double (using oil-based sulphur-free clay, and some silicone chalking for the bottom half)

I made a mold of the sculpts with Ultra-Cal 30 and cheesecloth. (And again before molding, put a release agent on your sculpt.)

Next I casted the pieces in latex. I painted layers of latex into the mold, and halfway through filling up the molds, I embedded armature wire into the bra and bottom halves.

After that, it's painting the latex and gluing the fabric parts to it. I cut apart an old bra and cover that with the Leia fabric, then glued that to the latex frame. I used hot glue at the time, but now I would recommend using E6000 instead.

I did more or less the same thing for all the other parts - I made everything from the hair clips to the chain to the boots!

Hope that helps!
