Sith Stalker (babw)

Being brave and hope this goes down well here *nervous look*

This weekend I started a Sith Stalker costume for one of my build a bear stuffies.

Just testing the water, to see what repsonse will get from here, before sharing any pics of progress. I have come across some problems but so far have managed to solve them. Though I haven't started the helmet yet, I think I have the claws figured out.

I have the combat skirt with lightsaber hilts finished and started on the top part of the costume earlier tonight. The top part will tuck into the combat skirt so it will look like one piece. I also think I have the boots sourced but will know better when they arrive.

I was unaware what babw was, but then I re-read your first post, Build a Bear Workshop is really not my thing but seems like your doing a decent job? I wouldn't know as I don't know anything about how a bear dressed as a Sith should look like.

Edit: As a side note, Build a Bear is a pretty specific thing, so there might not be alot here that are into that sort of hobby, so don't get disheartened about it, it's just possible there is no niche for it here :)

Yeah I know build a bear is a specific thing, but aren't there those here that build their own costumes? What's the difference? I thought that some here might "get a kick" out of seeing a build on a small scale.

*Shrugs* obviously I was wrong. Nevermind.

A bear dressed as a Sith Stalker, will look like a Sith Stalker, only a bear and smaller scale. I'm sewing the outfit by hand and will be making the claws and helmet, yes I know it's small scale but there's still a lot of work and effort going into it.

Not getting disheartened but maybe I should've trusted my instincts and not come here at all.

I think Drac was very diplomatic. People here are really more into props and costumes. So you probably won't be getting much of a response. Of course if you made a life size Ewok and made it into a Sith Stalker that would impress people.

Yeah, it's a costume for a build a bear *sighs* okay, whatever I give up.

& that would be an insult to a Sith Stalker!!

Anyway, just thought it would be fun to share but nevermind.

My two cents: who cares what people think? You are doing something unique. Own it and don't worry about anyone else. I find that pictures tend to get a response. Take the plunge - post em'! What is the worst that could happen? I am curious for sure.

Isnt that part of the point of sharing on a forum such as this? To see what people think, good or bad?

Regardless, no one was putting down what you are doing Purplybunny, it was just to explain a possible reason as to why you weren't getting much response, that was all, no insult or similar was meant.

Good luck with the rest of your build.

No offence taken and yeah you do have a point about the photos in post. Sometimes it's difficult to express properly in text. Besides I don't care what anyone else things about what I'm doing.

Will put photos in a post when I come back later tonight. Have to get ready for work, running late as it is.

Photo 1 showing my build a bear lion wearing Sith Stalker combat skirt, complete with 3 lightsaber hilts. He is wearing black combat trousers underneath.

Photo 2 showing my build a bear lion wearing Sith Stalker combat skirt, vest and neck skirt. Base of vest is pinned onto a babw shirt I got for next to nothing on ebay.

thank you! :D will be sewing the back of the vest tonight. I think I have how to do the ribcage sorted. I'm off work on friday so plan to do it then :) when I get that done then detail on back of vest. Several scratchings of head later, and I think I have got the claws sorted. Working on how to do the helmet at the moment and have got possible suitable boots on the way :) also have got proper belts for the lightsaber hilts coming.

not much to do really... :/ lol

another update :)

Front of base of vest sewn, also in photo is the neck skirt and front of the combat skirt.

Back of vest, the base is black silk (nothing but only the best for my Sith). The armour plate at the bottom is pvc, scrap material provides the lightbox and the armour linking the two. The brown material above the vest is the neck skirt. This photo also shows the back of the combat skirt.

I still don't know if I will be able to get a tiny lightbox that lights or not. Though for now this will do.

Latest update:

Today I got the belt to hold the lightsaber hilts. Below is a photo of the front of the Sith Stalker, so far.

Next photo is the back of the Sith Stalker, with the back of the vest sewn. I know the armour from the armour plate to the lightbox isn't straight, but I will sort that out tomorrow.

I am off tomorrow, I plan on experimenting with possible ways of making the ribcage. It will have to be added AFTER the vest is on the Lion.

Got some raw materials today and thought would share with you all :) The mod roc and fimo I already had, the rest I bought today. Will be using them to make the ribcage and claws of the Sith Stalker.

The chicken wire was the smallest size (amount wise) I could buy, though it won't go to waste. As I'm planning on making more costumes for the Lion it will get used.

List of raw materials:

  • Mod Roc (plaster of paris bandages)
  • Fimo (oven baked clay)
  • Chicken Wire
  • Velcro
  • Snap fasteners (two sizes)
  • Fishing hooks
  • 20lb weight fishing line

another update:

Below is a photo of the fourth lightsaber hilt I have made before going into the oven. There is room on the belt for one more.

Ribcage piece - fimo (Mark I)
This is a test piece, so I didn't worry about the colours that I was using.

Ribcage piece - mod roc (Mark II)
This is a test piece.

--------------------

Claw (Mark II)
This is a test piece, so I didn't worry about the colours that I was using. The soaked mini bamboo skewers are to ensure that it bakes in the oven with holes in the claw.

another update because the Fimo is now dry.

So here are the Claws (Mark II) it's only one side as I wanted to see how it would fit on the Lion's paw, it is a good fit :) Will be trying this with chicken wire and mod roc tomorrow and then see which is the best way to do the claws.

-------------------

Here is a fimo ribcage (Mark I) piece, it is just "sitting" on the Lion. Will see how the mod roc piece turns out when it dries, before deciding what method to use. Though I will admit, I like how you can see the wire frame through the fimo.

The boots and helmet for the Sith Stalker came today, so another update for you all. I'm also going to have to make another lightsaber hilt. The one I made yesterday, the D ring on the back of it was only held on by one screw. The fimo had cracked during the cooling process (i think). It is no big deal, will just make another one, I only noticed it after the photographs had been taken. The Helmet needs some work on it, but it's still early days.

Photographs of Thomas Marshal the Lion in his Sith Stalker outfit, progress to date.

With half claw (Mark I)
SithStalker01Feb6.jpg

Ribcage (Mark II) mod roc, lying against him. This ribcage is better than the fimo, the fimo one cracked when I squeezed it, the mod roc gave way a bit, but didn't break. So will be going with this version.
SithStalker01Feb7.jpg

I still want to make a full claw out of fimo and another one out of mod roc and I need to make another lightsaber hilt. Though that will be another day.

quick update:

I tried the full ribcage (Mark II - mod roc) on lion and it doesn't work! *sighs* so back to the drawing board on that one. Mark I was the fimo.
Claws Mark II (fimo) & Claws Mark III (mod roc) both failed.

Back to the drawing board then, for Mark III for ribcage and Mark IV for Claws. Won't let it beat me though.

Will keep you all updated.
