Showoff: Mal Pistol - Walnut Grips, Brass Plated & Accurate Thumbscrews

Wow, I really expected it to be a lot more than that as well. I may just have to break down and do this myself.

Did you assemble any of the pistol before plating, or was it all plated and then assembled?

Oh, man, I hope people start getting responses from the plater. I'd love to get mine done up just like this!

*sigh* I guess I have no choice but to try to track down brass thumbscrews now, eh?

You could snag a set of the nickel plated metal jobbies from Robstyle

Anyone heard back from the plater yet? I'm curious if this is a service he'll offer to anyone, or if this is going to turn out to be a one-off (which would make me very sad).

Hmm this is odd.
I spoke to the plater late last week and he told me that as of then no one had conracted him.

He said he would more than happy to do more.

I know Bobadebt tried, now you Ironfist. Was there anyone else who hasn't had a reply?

Just a side note: I haven't contacted the plater. I'm not ready to get the work done on mine yet, so I didn't want to waste his time with questions until I am.

yeh, i paid an assload more

Well, honestly, I think your plating looks better than this one, though I do love this one too. :cool

The chemical againg makes it look blued to me, and not plated. It just doesn't look like the right color.

BUT, that said, I think it looks more like a real gun than any other Mal pistol I've seen to date, and that's cool. Very cool.

OMG, I missed that is PERFECT. That is exactly how the gun has always looked to me. (well maybe there was a little more brasse showing threw, on the real one, but not much, and I like this better.)

So many people give it a brown finish, wich looks all wrong to me. And, they often color the grip, and trigger guard area wich also look really bad IMHO. But this is exactly as it should be. I'm not going to plate mine, but that is the over all color I'll be going for.

The grips are just amazing too. (maybe a little on the light side, but I like them. :) )

Great work.

Well, I guess I drew the lucky straw. I emailed the plater and he got back to me within a couple of hours.

He is indeed open to doing more of them, and for the same price.

Now, the question is...how/can I send my pistol to the UK without it being confiscated. :confused

Should we maybe consider a bulk shipment? Would that reduce the risk?

I appreciate that....
This guys frame is really too bright... if you seen mine, its more greyish

I do not have anything great to add to the topic, I am just in awe at how well your gun turned out!!!

Fantastic job!

I don't think I'd risk it, even if it is only a kit. You're in the good ol' US... don't you have platers 'round every corner? There's still a little left of the old Mom'n'Pop D.I.Y. spirit compared to on this side of the pond. :)

I've been calling brass platers all day (for Sid's Serenity version). None of them had ever plated pewter before and they didn't want to risk damaging the parts! However... I did find a shop willing to plate it in GOLD, for about $130, so I might be going that route. :confused

I imagine if I disassemble the thing, it doesn't look like a gun at all. Most likely, I would keep the grip here as it really doesn't need to be plated, just buffed and sealed.

Never shipped anything to the UK before, do they xray every box? or is it just going by your customs description? Hell, you could list the thing as metal miniatures in it's disassembled state. Minus the grip portion, it looks nothing like a firearm.
