Ive been thinking of doing this for a long while and decided to make a start as and when.

Ive been searching for a Blank round Shield.......... easy i hear you say.... well not so

Ive searched e-bay ive googled and came up with nothing.

A friend of my gave me a link to a web site of a company that sells riot gear etc to the police.
i mailed them and explained what i wanted the shield for but they do not sell to the General Public only to Police Forces.

I didnt really want to go down the route of looking abroad but i guess im left with no other option

so any help would be great, i want to scratch build a Shield that belongs to a certain Super Hero ;)

Every once in a while, I have a police procedural question for a comic book I'm writing. Most police (in urban areas, anyway) have Public Affairs officers who interact with the public for offbeat requests like "I'm writing a comic and need info for verisimilitude" or "Is there anybody on the force who's a comic book fan? Or was when he was a kid? Because I have a Captain America question."

Cops are regular joes, too, and you might be able to get somebody to order you one, you never know. The beat cop in the neighborhood where my office is has a Hello, Kitty sticker on his revolver grip.

Ok Many thanks for the advice on that.

I have to admit i dont have much to do with the police in the UK or infact know anyone conected to the Police either.

I fear i may have to go down the route of actually buying the ready made prop but i was really looking forward to scratch building, its more fun

Ive re-emailed the company and asked again and been more specific to my needs so fingers crossed however i dont hold much hope

Can always try cannibalizing /cutting down one of those round plastic saucer/dish sleds too if your wanting to go the scratch built route. Being mid-Feb I would think you could probably catch them on clearance too.

This looks ideal and in the UK too, Do you think this could work??

what kind of Spray paint would i use to make sure it adheres to the plastic, i would have thought that this sledge would have some kind of laquer/film on it to aid it gliding. i assume then lots of wet'n'dry sanding is in order.

i can see this project starting sooner than i thought, thanks guys

Hey, one of those would be a great starting point for a Reb Brown TV movie version. :D

Here's a US supplier:
http://www.atdamerican.com/atd/Shop?DSP=30...0&IID=97124

60 bucks at todays exchange rate ain't bad...

Here's the makers site - in the UK. Paulson International Ltd, Birmingham:

No price listed on site, but there is a Contact button. :)

Actually, going the scratchbuild route - how about a satallite dish??? eBay has some 78cm (30") ones BIN for 40 quid all in. Probably cheaper second hand tho. ;)

I saw a cool round, metal dish sled at Ace Hardware last Friday. It looked to be about 30" in diameter, with a rolled edge. Unfortunately I didn't see a price but I'm guessing about $20.

If it's big enough I think it would make a great Cap shield...the contour seems spot on.
