Not 100% sure yet, Emma. I'm talking to 4 different sources that can do this type of work. The cheapest price I've received so far is $750 for the metal work, so a lot of it will depend on how many I end up making.

Today I will be finishing the final hammer prototype and making this an official project run in the Junkyard
Hammer 2.0 - final prototype:
After finding (2) VERY good photos of the hero props (There were (3) hero hammers made total) I now have the shape and size of the hammer....*ahem*...nailed down
According to Frank Darabont the prop makers fabricated (3) hammers for the various stages of Andy's journey out of prison. The first is obviously the hammer as it came to Red. The second was ever so slightly worn, but not much really. The third was the hammer seen at the end of the film in the shot with the man pulling it out of the water. The scene where Andy left it after his escape, the "worn down to a nub" version.
Using the photos of the "phase 2" hammer I began re-making my prototype. Here are a few pics, with more to come today:
