Sharper Image / LIGHT SABER REPLICAS

Don't have the catalog in front of me at the moment, so not sure of actual make or model, but they are the light up version (non-telescoping), I believe die-cast, with sound effects and mounting stand, etc. going for $115.00 I believe...

Just curious of any personal reviews out there.

Are they a decent piece, or just a step above the Wal-Mart toy versions that are out there?

Happy New Year All.

Any input appreciated.

I've been in an actual sharper image store and they are just the MR FX lightsabers - unless their catalog has something different???

Very woth it - dont buy from sharper image, though - you can get most of them for less than $100 off of ebay.

They're pretty nifty little gadgets. Fixed non removable blade, the LEDs light up in sequence, so you get the 'extending' effect from the hilt. Some of the hilts are more accurate than others (the least accurate is probably the Luke ROTJ or AOTC/ROTS Mace Windu). The blades are fairly sturdy and can withstand some light dueling (although the instructions tell you not to duel with them).

MR FX lightsabers have great sound effects and lighting power...

the only problem (i think) is that they aren't meant to hit things very hard because the solder connections between LEDs inside the blade tend to break, causing "dark spots" in the blade (it's a wonder they added "clash" sound effects into them).

They are great fun though. If you do happen to make a few dark spots in the blade, you can always convert it to a luxeon-style lightsaber.

I remember back in the day when SI was selling ICONS sabers. This was of course before MR took over. I remember staring at the Vader saber in the protective case in the store. Now I can stare at my MR Vader saber in it's display case in my living room. :)

I love the MR Fx line. They're definately more affordable than the LEs, plus they light up and make noise (I'm a sucker for stuff that lights up). I currently have 5 in my collections, including the double bladed Darth Maul my wife got me for Christmas.

I all of them except the Maul and Obi Wan. Some are better than others, but they are all far better than plastic toys. While the new ones are technically better than the older ones (better light technology- better control over motion activated sounds and better volume), you can expect the impressive gold finish to start wearing off sabers like the ROTS Anakin and Mace with heavy use. There are plenty of reviews of FX sabers and lower prices on the net. I only paid full price for the first one I bought.

Perhaps a silly question...

But are these available at any retail outlet or store in the states?

(I know there's a few Sharper Image stores - But few and far between, and not even sure if they would stock these)

Again, just curious

The MR saber are a super display piece. You can battle with them but if you do any hard hits, you will damage the blade. The other issue I am having with them is the chrome is peeling off our Vader bought at CIII, the Luke Fx and the Mace FX. It looks like the plating is NOT going to hold on the long term for these which is a shame. The newer blades use less batteries and have brifghter blades. The best by far is the Maul FX both because of the finish, blade brightness, dual blade ability and low need of batteries.
Looking back, there are other saber manufacturers out there. I love the Parks system as they are indestructable even though they have no sound effects and cannot legally make the screen accurate pieces. Given Jeff Parks has an outstanding issue that really screwed over another member here and it has not been settled, I will not buy from Parks until that is resolved. It s a shame but he has become a bit bull headed and his justification as posted here is way off base.
So, I personally would recommend the MR hilts, mainly the newer ones and possibley converting any that are damaged with other members systems.

Also try Spencers Gifts, Costco, or Fry's. They were once available at Gamestop and Best Buy.
