Serpico tv show

Interesting, I didn't know there was a TV show. Have to see if I can find it available to watch.

Recently re-watched the movie.

Nice capture Marc,
That looks pretty close the the real NYPD ID cards of that era too....love that style. You can see where the generic props came from throughout the 80's era, like 'Prince of the City' etc.. I think even 'Hunter' in the early shows had something similar.

It was a US cop show from the late 80's ealry 90's set in LA. The main character resembled 'Dirty Harry' - Hunter, with a female partner. They showed thier ID's in the opening credits for the first few seasons until they went to standard blue/white LAPD cards in later seasons. The early cards looked like reversed version of the NY card but with 'Metropolitan Police' as a title.
OK this is what I meant, I had to screen grab this from youtube, so the quality is terrible but you can see what I mean.

but in my memory for the id...:rolleyes

I have the template for that card but the badge is blue. I can't tell if the one above is just faded blue or is actually red like the old ones ??????

nice:thumbsup réplica Kennyd

mine it's just little différent, thank you for the share

WOW. Great job! My only comment would be to make the signature a little more irregular like how a blue ink pen tends to write, maybe lower the opaque level a little. Here is a comparsion of some same-era real and prop NYPD cards.

Thanks Gary, superb pics.
Would the genuine yellow card on the top right also have been used in the 1950s-60s ?

When I print the card i'll mess about with the contrast just on the sig part, see if I can wash it out a little.
Handwiting fonts are always the let down with these cards. Unless I can lift the sig digitally or handwrite it, I have to find a handwriting font which sort of looks ok, but sadly they never match that closely :unsure
I'm a bit obsessed with fonts I think :lol

I remember watching a show on the History Channel a while back featuring the real Frank Serpico. It showed a nice close up of his last issue ID card (with retired stampted on it). I wish I had a screen grab.

Here are the only ones I have that predate the 70's cards. The first pic is something I had in my computer files so I have no info on it. The second style was used by Frank Sinatra as an NYPD Sgt. in the movie "The Detective." The movie was done in 1968, one of my favorite cop movies BTW. I MAY have older vintage NYPD cards, I will look in my NYPD box.

I have a Sinatra "Detective" card but it was never screen seen, only used in the trailers and advertising of the movie. In the movie it showed the era correct way NYPD members ID'd themselves, just the shield in a small, snapover "Jay Pee" leather badge case....NO I.D. I wonder if that is really Frank Sinatra's fingerprint on the card???

Thanks Gary.
I've seen the first one before on TV and from a member here.

I have to be honest and say I really hope this is just a prop made for TV, as compared to the yellow card above it's kinda fugly :lol But if that's what they used back then, so be it :)

Anyone have any genuine old 1950s-60s Chicago PD cards ?
I have this pic on my PC from the 1930s-40s I believe. I would have made a copy but I can't find that old CPD badge logo anywhere.

Here's a straight lift from the opening titles of 'Prince of the City', I like this style of NYPD ID, as you can see from eltee's post there are a number of variations in sizes and layouts. Similar to the Serpico card but with the blue patch-art.
