Second Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver

I finally bit the bullet and ordered one from Dark Energy Creations yesterday. They are still on sale for $95.00 and according to the website they only have 2 left.

I received my DE Sonic today and I'm very happy with it. I would also like to thank those of you who posted about it as I had never heard of it before last week as I hadn't taken the time to read through the whole thread until recently.

Pleased for you. At the time this completed my metal sonic collection (incl. Romana's) but they do insist on bringing out new variants.
I'm hoping for a metal laser screwdriver one day.

I've only seen pictures, never a video of it. Why don't you put up a video review?

I would love to but I don't have any camera that could take pictures or video that I can upload. I don't even have a digital camera, the one I have still uses something called called film.

Dark Energy Creations have updated their "The War Games" Sonic Screwdriver penlight as used by the Second Doctor, thanks to the actual version of the Eveready penlight having been found by Lee Moone. Here's my new penlight (with the white button) as compared to his older model (with the blue button - not used by Troughton at all, but actually used by Pertwee as an ordinary penlight).

DEC is currently offering free upgrade parts to anyone who purchased one of these penlights directly from him, which will convert his older model replica into the new model.

Since the button end isn't visible in the episode, and the penlights are so similar, how can you be sure which one is the correct version?

I recently got the upgrade from David at Dark Energy and I'm very pleased with it. I also like the fact that I can have either version but am keeping it with the new upgrade installed since this is the correct version.

Same, although I have two of them so I was able to leave one with the Pertwee configuration. I'm really glad to see that he has offered the upgrade for free. That's pretty amazing.

Pertwee configuration?

Yes, the Eveready penlight originally found, the one with the ridged blue button, wasn’t used by Troughton as the Sonic Screwdriver, but it was used by Jon Pertwee as a regular penlight in “The Time Warrior”. He used it to undo the brainwashing on the kidnapped scientists.

I was surprised when I got the email from him offering the upgrade for free. I was at least expecting to pay for shipping but he covered that too. Once he has them back in stock I may buy another one so that I have both versions.

Also received the free upgrade. I offered to pay, but DEC refused. Very happy that this particular sonic screwdriver is finally sorted. Thanks to Mooneye for finally releasing the prop discoveries and DEC for making a great replica. Now pondering if I want to get the other Troughton versions. :)

The completist in me wouldn’t let me not get the other versions. Although I was very resistant about getting the whistle at first because it just doesn’t seem interesting. But as part of the history, and being the first, it became more interesting to me.

Decided to update my model with the updated discoveries. Shapeways now prints in aluminum, so I'm going to print the barrel and clip in aluminum. With a little polishing it should look pretty good. Here are some pictures of the 3D model...
