Second Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver

That FindingKing gem grading light is out of stock -- does anyone know of another source for that model?

No, THAT isn't teasing you...this is:

*tee hee hee*
Based on all the evidence I've seen here and elsewhere, that's it... IF it has the correctly shaped tip! It has to have the tip as seen in the show, and then it's the correct one. :cool

So, DETAILS, man! Brand? Model? Year of manufacture? How do we track one of these down?!? :confused

Oh, it has the correct tip. :thumbsup

Interested in the details myself as well...of course. ;)

Well, fine, be that way. I'm just trying to figure out how to narrow my search because there's like 5 gajillion different penlights on eBay right now! :wacko

While searching for more images of the 2nd Doctor's Sonic, I found this on Flickr... I have no idea where it came from. Seems to be a picture another collector took of his prized sonics. I guess maybe he's one of the lucky few that bought the Artisan Series Sonic put out by QMx and made by Nick Robatto? :confused

EDIT: PICTURE REMOVED AT REQUEST OF ITEM'S OWNER, SORRY GUYS & GALS. :(

But by comparing it to the images from the show, I can tell it's the correct model, just with 45-ish years of wear. That and the picture posted by Straker, along with the screen captures from the show, are all I have to go on. :unsure

Hmmm, is that an 11th doctor filming prop or a replica? What flickr account did that come from? If original does that mean BBC propmasters still have the first sonic??

I'm not sure what account it came from now, I found it several days ago, did the old "right click - save" maneuver and moved on to continue looking for more images.

Since the Artisan Series "Replicas" QMx sold were made by Nick Robatto himself, using the same exact materials and process he uses to make the actual filming props, they are, for all intents and purposes, identical to the filming props. That's why my guess is that it's one of those, as no one else has sold a replica anywhere near that accurate to what we see on-screen.

I recently bought the Sonic Screwdriver TV Remote and I can tell you for sure it isn't one of those. Just for a start, the activation switch isn't present on the TV remote. And for another, the copper parts on the remote are "copper-plated" and polished to a chrome-like shine, so while the remote looks similar to the prop, it's easy to spot the differences. But alas, it's the only metal 11th Doctor Sonic I can afford for the foreseeable future. I sure as hell couldn't afford to drop $4,000 for the QMx Artisan Series one. :cry

Ohhh right, I forgot about the QMx one being so close. My head was about to explode!
Oh, mine almost did! I'd LOVE to have both those pieces in my collection. How cool is it that the original Sonic Screwdriver was a 100% unaltered found item? Too bad it's been out of production for about 4 decades. :(

How do you know it has the correct tip? It's impossible to make out in that pic. :p

:lol

Seriously though, what are the deets on that penlight!

So that penlight as far as I know was made in the mid 1960's. It DOES have the correct tip but i don't have any details yet as so who the manufacturer was. Apparently it was made by several different manufacturers including Varta. Ads for FINDING one...I've spent the entire time since I posted that picture trying to find one with ZERO luck.

Well count me as recruited in the search then! :lol

Well, we know at least one person found one. The problem is, with it being a model that was found in the UK, it was likely manufactured in MUCH smaller quantities than one that would have been available in the good ol' US of A. :(

I've seen numerous modern ones that are similar in design, but it's always a case of "close, but no cigar". :facepalm

Still, I may have to make do with one of those options, as finding the Real McCoy may not be impossible, but it is at least very highly improbable. :(

Anyway, back to the one pictured... you mentioned the person that owns it. Why didn't you get more info from them when you got the picture(s)? :confused

I did. I didn't get any information from him after I got that picture.

As far as I know this penlight was only available in the UK is all I know. eBay searches have been difficult and that includes finding them on the .co.uk version as how they list it can be a bit different. Might not be a penlight but a pentorch, pocket torch, or any number of variations. Just hasn't been easy to find. From what I hear it's easier to find them at car boot sales rather than the internet.

I've also heard rumors that someone in the prop community has one and plans to make straight duplicate in the same way Parksabers makes duplicates of the camera flashguns but I haven't seen anything materialize yet.
