SE-14R : What was the Base Gun originally?

Did you add this Greeblie or was it already part of the casting???

I’m very curious as the exact same Greeblie was recently discovered on the E-11 Folding Stock from ANH; E-11 Previously Unknown Prop Details
Those are square push button caps by RS Components.
I believe the button cap is only on the one early E-11 prop photographed for reference/approval by production.
Same two button side by side configuration is on the Merr Sonn too.
It's also on the front sight of the Margolin Leia/Luke blaster, DDC Defender.

Wannawanga is out of stock...

Blasterfactory has 3D printed ones for the Princess blaster and MerrSonns.

There are a few things different on this version compared to the ANH

Pointed this out to Fieldmarshal already...

Not only was the R1 DT blaster slightly modified (based on a morganthirteen cast), it also has potential shrinkage issues, being an x.gen cast of Shawn´s original work.

So if BF works with the DT statue blaster, it might be pretty accurate for the modern iterations of the SE14 used in R1 and other movies/ series, BUT I fear it´d be inaccurate for the Dr. Evazan blaster, ANH SE14 and even the ALIEN Nostromo blaster.

I’m actually helping Chris at Blaster Factory with this, the initial kit will be a Rogue One version accurate to what was used by Death Troopers, K-2SO, Imperial Officers, ect. If it sells well he is also considering doing an ANH/Alien version of the kit, and possibly a Lando too but for now it’s only R1 to start.
I have to admit I did not expect him to announce this project but he surprised me with some 3D scans he had previously taken of his extremely clean SE-14r example from the Anovos Death Trooper statue some time ago and I was very excited!
Apparently many people have been asking him to make the SE-14r for years now.
For those not aware Chris based his Death Trooper E-11D conversion kits on the rifle that came with this statue and the accuracy of those kits is second to none. Now he is planning to do the same thing with the SE-14r side arm pistol that came the statue.

I’m not certain Lucasfilm actually cast one of Shawn’s SE-14’s as opposed to 3D scanning it, and reprinting a digital model. There seems to be a few small details slightly different than Shawn’s casting that I’ve spotted over the years since Rogue One was released. These slight changes are very evidently from scanning, cleaning up and idealizing the scan, and reprinting a digital model. Resin & Rubber stunt props may have been cast from there, but definitely all derived from the same 3D scan of Shawn’s casting.

Lucasfilm has been utilizing more and more 3D printing over Resin Casting ever since TFA, most of the Hero Props for Rey and Kylo were printed.
And more specifically when it comes to blaster props; instead of using actual real found parts, opting for 3D scans/models of existing firearms and flare guns then combining different parts of them digitally to create a unique looking prop. For example; Gor Koresh/Boba Fett’s blaster pistol from The Mandalorian is a digital combination of a Sledgley Mk.5 Flare Gun and an MP40 Machine Gun, the scale of which real world parts do not even match up as they do on the printed prop because they were resized to fit together in the 3D modelling software. They have used this same technique to create other blaster props too.

Lucasfilm 3D scanning blaster references into their digital database is nothing new, and I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if they did the same with Shawn Morgan’s SE-14r cast. In fact I’m almost certain of it!

Will it be all metal moving parts?

Maybe just the trigger if anything for installing electronics for light/sound. Still early to tell, but I’m told the Dust Cover will not be functional, it will be fixed open so no converting this R1 kit into another version with a closed dust cover.

Anyways the point to my previous post is that the SE-14r example that came with the Anovos Death Trooper statue appears to have captured all the slight differences caused from Lucasfilm 3D scanning Shawn Morgan’s cast into a digital model and is accurate to what was used on screen for Rogue One.
It’s basically an exact copy of the props used on set, no exaggeration.

Suits me since I kinda prefer the Rogue One onwards version.

Sorry to seem dim but which part is the Dust Cover?

Also each version had a different scope, the Rogue One version had this 4x20 hunting scope, thankfully still available and very affordable.

The original Stormtrooper variant had a 4x18 rifle scope from Ordinace Optics.

And Dr. Evazan’s blaster used two Model 7 Original 4x20 rifle scopes.

Dude…Blaster Factory, why not provide the ability to make either version in kit form??

Am I the only the one who thinks that there are far more people wanting to build either the Alien or “You’ll Be Dead Guy” blaster than those wanting to make a Rogue One sidearm?

For reals…

Agree 100% I would rather have Dr. Evazan’s blaster or an original stormtrooper ANH version as made by Elstree props team. So much more iconic IMO

Well, speaking only for myself, I'd probably prefer the Rogue One version - assuming that the props used in the various TV shows are the same as R1.

Mostly because, whilst I have my problems with Obi-Wan and how it intersects with continuity, I'm a big fan of Indira Varma and if I were to build this prop I'd build the version she uses.

That said, I'm unlikely to buy a kit for either version, and I don't claim to be representative of the wider market. I'm just saying we all live in silos and it's risky to assume our personal preferences extend across the community. Obviously a lot of people do prefer the OT over anything Disney's done, but even assuming that "more people prefer ANH over R1" is true (and I'm honestly not sure it is. they're totally different genres of story and so they're hard to compare) does that translate into "more people will buy a prop kit based on ANH than will buy one based on R1 and Andor?"

I don't have enough information to answer that question, if I'm being honest, but it's worth thinking about.

As someone who was planning this run for the past 4 years and was asked by a lot of people to do it. I never even considered the later versions, only the Alien and ANH version. And yes, I would personally make sure the kits would work for any version, this would be the easiest way to go about it.
