SDCC San Diego Comic Con 2011 : Sold Out

I think Ticketleap could have been more forthcoming with helpful advice. They told people to just refresh when the overdemand screen came up. They could have told us to do that for every stage of the process. I thought I was getting kicked out everytime I tried to get to the checkout. Then the four day passes sold out so I struggled to get 4 individual day passes. It took about an hour but I did. THEN they decide to tell people the 4 day passes were still available afterall. So I went through it all over again.

Here's an idea - they could make tickets more expensive.

I love a bargain as much as the next guy, but compare a 4 day pass to Comic Con - about $100 - to a 3 day pass to Coachella - about $300. Raising the price would cut down on demand and hopefully make the ticketing process a lot easier.

Raise prices to cut demand? Lame. And that won't fix the ticketing problem. The better bet would be to find a larger facility. If not, then first come first served.

The issue with that is that SDCC is a non-profit.

Ah, that explains it.

Raise prices to cut demand? Lame. And that won't fix the ticketing problem. The better bet would be to find a larger facility. If not, then first come first served.

Yep, definitely lame - but if demand is high and supply is limited, price should go up. But thanks to Larry I now know why it doesn't.

Cool. Looks like a bunch of things need tweaked to give everyone that attends a fair shot. I would like to see all exclusives quadruple in quantity. This was way I see a two way win--those who turn for profit will have a harder time doing so and those who wait in line have a better chance of obtaining an item. Vendors should know they will get rid of what they bring. I just wish I could go to one in my lifetime...

I'm just glad I didn't have to deal with this. Somehow, I managed to make it through the second time they put the passes on sale back in December, and got a 4-Day. Though, now on the downside, none of my friends managed to get one because it sold out so fast, so I get to walk around alone. It's pretty ridiculous.

EDIT: Also, I think the new Twilight movie is going to show footage again this year so.. that could probably account for it.

I was there a few years back and there was already talk of moving it to Las Vegas.

Not sure if Vegas has a bigger convention center though.

I honestly feel for those who cannot go. I originally had a group of 5 going now I'm down to 4.
I remember the good ole days when you can just buy tickets at the box office.

Ive been blaming the Tweens and twimoms who just want to see the cast in '09 that have no interest in CC, however (playing devils advocate) they do have everyright to be there as much as anyone else. The only positive side can see about that is shorter lines for exclusives(no matter how minut).

There is talk about moving every couple of years (LA is the most common place talked about, Vegas would never work, comic cons are an epic fail in Vegas) but all of it is just talk it will NEVER move.
Heck the money spent in San Diego during the con keeps the town afloat the rest of the year:lol

Where in LA would they have it? Worst thing about LA is the traffic.

FB

I don't know, the LA convention center is not big enough. At one point LA was offering to build a new facility if the con would sign a 10 year deal there (never confirmed)
LA traffic is not much worse then SD - but in either case not much driving happens at the con so I don't think it would hurt much.
I think it has to stay in San Diego...it is the SAN DIEGO comic con by tradition...kinda hard to move it. They just need (again) to add to the con center, heck add a whole another floor. :cool

If it leaves San Diego I won't follow it.

Just go back to the way they sold tickets before, I had no problems getting them until this years total idiocy. People need to be FIRED.

i doubt they can go back to the old ways of selling tickets......tickets are in demand.....last year it took several weeks for single day tickets for friday, thursday and sunday to sell out....took like two days for saturday to sell out i think....and it took like 4 days for the 4 day without preview to sell out......

this year.....it only took 2-3 hours for saturday, friday, and 4 day passes to sell out.......

i think too many people would mail in their ticket request......how can they determine who gets what if too many people mail in requests........

to avoid this hassle next year, they shouldnt sell next years tickets at this next con.....and they should use two ticket agencies to sell tickets....have a big ticket company like ticketmaster to sell the 4 day passes and have leapfrog to sell the single day tickets...it gives the servers a break......leap can still charge the 2 dollars fee and maybe they can work out a deal for ticketmaster to charge 8 dollars (2 dollars per day)

los angeles is a horrible idea......the traffic there is unbearable....bumper to bumper traffic...moving inches a minute.....

i say out of la, vegas and anaheim.....the best choice of those 3 is anaheim......the convention center is huge....i was there for d23 and it is pretty big....traffic is not as bad as los angeles...tons of hotels and restaurants near by....

If they got it right the first time they wouldn't have had a feeding frenzy like this time.

Put them on sale extra early and do not announce when. Just start selling them, let word of mouth spread it. This was way too late in the game and telling tens of thousands all the same time and day was an idiot move.
