since the Prop den has relocated i am unable to log on

i have heard rumblings of a a recasting issue that i would like to clarify and ULTIMATELY CONFIRM AS THE TRUTH

im hoping that someone from the prop den will copy and paste this thread in their forum for all to see

News has come to light of a recast issue regarding the VM02 and i feel it is my duty to put the record straight and tell the truth to the story.

Those that know me well will know that before Graham Campbell died i got involved in helping to build that latter orders of the VM02 helmets and after Grahams sad death we then worked on a produced Grahams other project the VSF Stormtrooper Helmet.

During that period and still today i am very protective of those projects and also very proud of the work we did to carry on Grahams Legacy.

It angers me actually no ......... it sickens me ...to think that some one could recast someone elses work and pass it off as there own.

I had a very lengthy telephone conversation with Gino from the RPF and what a fantastic guy he is, he helped me to undertstand the ethics and bond that USED to exsist in the Prop community a sort of Code of Honour if you will, the bottom line is You just do not Recast another Prop makers work.

(by the way Gino if you read this pics on the way buddy)

Several months ago i was banned from the UKG looking back it seems that every bad element going on at that time was my fault but i still believe to this day wanting to add a change was the major contributing factor the bottom line is, i was seen as a threat to the Hierachy.....

During these times i met and got quite friendly with Rick Herod AKA Snoman, and between the 2 of us we decided to form and build KOTE Knights of the Empire.(another Stawars costuming club uk based)

Very quickly KOTE became very successful and Snoman and i did build quite a rapour and become friends or so i thought.

I moved into my new home and pride of place was my own VM02 which incidently i built myself, one windy day i came home opened my door and a freak gust of wind sent the VM02 from its postion crashing to the floor breaking one of the Tusk areas i was absolutely mortified.

Now previous to this i had travelled one weekend from Birmingham to Manchester to wire in the electrical Mains to Snomans workshop and also connect up his distribution board in the workshop a job i was promised either payment for or a set of his clone armour both of which i have never seen to this day.
During the day id told Snoman what had happened and he offered to repair the tusk area for me, ive seen some of Snomans work and i have to admit he knows his stuff, so in my naivety i trusted some one i thought was my friend

At the next KOTE event i handed over the VM02 and looked forward to getting back a repaired Vader helmet.

For some reason things seem to go belly up and once again i found myself banned from a club i had help create, Snoman became very evasive and arrogant toward me and my imediate concern was for the return of my VM02 after many heated conversations by phone and txt messaging my VMO2 arrived in what i can only describe as a worse state, sure the tusk area had been repaired but the helmet looked different.

The finish seemed very dull, there was bits of silicone all over the inside of the dome and mouth grill and the lenses had clearly been removed and re-fitted.
worse still the top of the face mask where the connection is to the dome is cracked beyond repair, the state of the packaging it came back in was unbelieveable, it had just been dumped in a box with a bit of bubble wrap and that was it
My prized possesion is now worthless.....................

i know my props and i know about building props and my VM02 has been recasted.

what makes this totally laughable if one can see the funny side, is this Joker claims to be an honest straight up guy, a Commanding Officer of a group of costumers in the UK, he has the audacity to ban a member of KOTE from the 99th Garrison on the grounds that he claims his Clone armour has been re-casted, pot calling the kettle black me thinks.

This Guy is the scum of not only the Prop Making Community but also the Costuming community.

i urge all of you to avoid giving him your money and believe in the code of real prop makers

HE IS SELLING THESE HELMETS ON EBAY AND I FEEL PHYSICALLY SICK THAT SOMEONE I TRUSTED COULD HAVE DONE THIS

Recasting is just plain bang out of order

I disagree... the hobby has grown so much over the last 5-6 years that there are just so many more people involved raising the number of scammers who migrate to a popular hobby with visions of making a quick buck. The core members still adhere to that "code". Some people are just greedy.

Very sorry to hear about this... what is the Ebay seller name so we can put him on "ignore". Also, do you know if the guy/gal is a member here?

Please do and to support your assertions it would be a great help to post some comparison pictures with matching details so there's no question as to the recasting.

Is this the helmet in question?

humor me, if it is kaminoclone

ah, the ousted member kaminocloner. i have had dealings with this p.o.s. on the clonetrooper.net forum for recasting my beehive helmet. he was underbidding me and with poor quality. he also goes by xkaminoclonerx and his regular ebay name which i cant find.

not a very intelligent chap. he tried to sell one of my beehives on ebay, i confronted him, claims he "bought" the helmet and does not want it anymore. then uses the other ebay name a week later but uses the same context, picture, etc. i confronted the other ebay name and he claims he was not xkaminoclonerx.

i also caught him trying to sell recasts on the rebelscum forum under props, claiming he bought the mold from someone in florida.

Simon - this sucks mate, sorry to hear it.

Your helmet may still be salvagable though - even if the fiberglass is cracked and so on, it can be repaired and repainted.

But its ok for you to rip of a Meatsock to create your Stormtrooper bucket? I have heard this direct from a UKG member BTW.....

Funny you shout so loud about recast helmets :lol :lol :lol

Re: Scumbag

First let me say that I do not support recasting in any way shape or form.

Second - I am glad to see Karma bite you. After Graham's death, you and Mark (Ojika) screwed with me for six months over a helmet that I paid Graham for. Mark promised that I would recieve a helmet I even paid him additional shipping. When he would no longer respond to my emails, you stated that you would try to help since he was your friend. You also said that you were not involved with the helmets. Liar! By the way, I never received the helmet.

My apologies to the rest of the members for interupting the thread.

The new web address for The Prop Den is:

http://thepropden.aokforums.com/

The old address should now still work, in theory. AOKForums recently went through some upgrades, after which they made old link references point to the new address. So depending on when you tried getting to The Prop Den, the forwarding may not have been implemented in time.

I'm not a moderator -- just a regular contributor -- but I think I can speak for a lot of us on The Prop Den that we find this utterly selfish and deplorable.

I realize that some recasters think, "Well, it's not like it's your work anyway. It belongs to Lucasfilm." But as one who not only does heavy customizations and refinements to substandard kits but also is in the process of scratch-building a Vader mask, I know first hand how much handwork can go into a piece. A fan can put weeks and months of love and labor into refining something for everyone to enjoy. When someone recasts it in the name of "Well, Vader is not your intellectual property" he is stealing, robbing and duplicating that fan's work for selfish gain and should be made aware of this. A fan's work on a Vader mask is a level of labor over and above the condition of the base mask or kit.

If the recaster in question is reading this, I would implore him to consider this crime against his fellow man and encourage him to do his own original sculpt. Perhaps then he'd regain the respect he has utterly lost with the fan community.
