Screen Accurate Millennium Falcon Cockpit (CG Model)

Stand alone films?

Oh Yes... I think the rumors have been confirmed that a Han Solo stand alone film(s) is also being worked on. Disney plans to release a SW movie every year in between Ep 7-9

What scar?

Hey A,

Harrison Ford has a scar on his chin just below his bottom lip.

BTW - LOVE the work you've done with all the SW images! Brilliant work. If I may... have you considered creating a shot of the Ion Cannon control room right above the cannon?

Hahah, you totally got me there. I did in fact intentionally leave out the Bantha because, like you say, it's technically a costume. But I completely forgot about the Dewback (and while we're at it, there wasn't there a second animal/prop/conveyance parked outside the cantina?) Nicely played.

You're right, I totally forgot about the jerba next to the dewback. Though I read somewhere that it was actually another example of an animal in a costume. If that was the case, it would fall under the same rule as the bantha.

looking at some behind the scenes images of the Jerba, I'm pretty sure it's not a costume.

the jury's still out on whether I'll tackle them... we'll see.

The Jerba (a favorite of mine) was a prop, not an animal in costume. There are some great behind the scenes pics of it 'standing around'.

Hey S,

Just checked out the blog... did you notice the connection between the Lars Speeder and the MF?

There is one definite connect I know of: that dorsal vent part is found in the ESB Main Hold, on the ceiling. Incidentally, it's also the engine on the full-scale skyhopper, part of a generator on Hoth, and another part of the Derwent Engine. How'd I do?

thanks for those! Still not sure if I'll model it, but it remains to be seen.

Tell me again - what's the "Bantha rule"?

Bantha's a costume, and also not a space station (according to the rules I was making my laundry list of ships/vehicles/conveyances with.)

happy holidays folks!

The grasshopper should know better than to try to fool the master... Merry Christmas, my friend!

Hey Starkiller,

I'm back at at it again. Got my printer, so I'm anxious to finish-up my cockpit model. Did you ever find any good images of the side wall panel near Han's left elbow from ANH? It's still a blank unknown for me...

Absolutely love both these models guys. Currently I am starting a build of 1/48 scale falcon, based off of the HAsbro Legacy Falcon. At the moment I am just learning how to use Sketchup (I used to use another similar 3d application so not learning completely from scratch). Part of the build will be the falcon to have full scaled internals, and I will be lighting the whole thing too (fibres and leds). I am hoping to make the internals pretty accurate (i.e down to the lighting of the floors inside the corridors). Any help you guys could offer in layouts, sizing, internals, etc, would be very much appreciated. I am intending to 3d print large chunks of the internals, a new cockpit and tunnel, etc. I am not sure how much will be 3d printed, and whether I might print some standard pieces and then mold them (for example the cushion pieces in the tunnel, might be cheaper to 3d print sections, and then cast and put together.

Again any help on internal layouts, pieces, sizes, etc would be fantatsic. I have much to do and this is just a starting point!

If I do start down this road, and get anywhere near completing it, I will make the pieces available via 3D Warehouse/Grab CAD etc, and if possible I will offer the parts at cost + small % for the mold to make everything from any molds I produce, if people end up wanting it.

Could one of you do me a quick favour and shrink the size of the internals by 1/48, import into something like netfabb and give me a volume in cm3 please? It would give me some feel for the total 3d print cost I will have to come up with if i want to do by printing. Thanks in advance

Gah! Forget that I have just realised you can't do that!

I will have to take a stab via an estimate, probably 45cm diameter, 10cm high is going to give me an internal volume of 7000cm3? Assuming even only 10% fill, thats 700cm3, which is a lot of 3d printing!

Having a look at your internals, I notice that as per the movies the gun well lines up opposite the cockpit corridor. With the ship of riddles, does this actually line it up under the guns?

Sorry could I ask for some measurements? What is the outer diameter of the cockpit tube? It looks to me to be about 8.5 feet? What are the inner tunnel diameters?

Thanks!

You'll have to read this thread from start to finish to understand Starkiller's methods to deriving size and scale and the reality and fiction of it all.

For my model, I went with 104" tube diameter - which is based on the shop blueprints - not the set piece. It's an ideal state that is in conflict with the scale of the rest of the Falcon - but a concession I was willing to make.

Thanks, yeah that seems about right. The Legacy Falcon has a tunnel which is approximately twice the size! IMG_1059.JPG
