Screen Accurate Millennium Falcon Cockpit (CG Model)

ozzy, there ain't enough time in the universe.

yellowjacket, thanks for reminding me. it'd break my heart if I had to change my tagline.

Brinn, thanks man! You are welcome!

thanks hellboy120, oh for a render farm...

really what I need is a team. I work the way I eat, my eyes are too damn big for my stomach. But I enjoy myself none the less.

Thanks again folks!

"I work the way I eat, my eyes are too damn big for my stomach"

That has to be one of the most original quotes I have heard in years! LOL If its been said before, I aint heard it! cracked me up!

I dont know crap about graphics. (my graphics were "rendered" (term used very loosely)on MS paint LOL) but have 5 pcs at home if you need render time.

Ozzy

I meant to say so before, but I'm damn impressed that you worked those up in paint.

thanks for the offer! I might take you up on it some day

Hey Steve... I often wondered if that was a window in the main recreation area where Luke was training. A window that looked out into the area between the mandibles. Would make sense if it was too. Its just a bulkhead and if it were a window would allow for passengers to see where the ship was going. Often wondered if that was he original intention of that area because it looks like a window was meant to go there but they scrapped the idea before filming. What do you think?

I would have to say I doubt it. The forward bulkhead that would theoretically lay between the mandibles is a pretty dense mass of large pipes and girders. I have to say I'm not a big fan of layouts that include access to a chamber forward of that area. How they propose an access hatch through two 16" diameter pipes is beyond me. Actually two pipes isn't even correct, although that's what I've put in my model, there actually appears to be a single much larger pipe, making it even more implausible.

Furthermore, all the plans, maquettes, and even the rough sketches of the interior of the early linear falcon (which internally resembles the final design quite a bit) include no windows of any kind.

I guess the falcon is all business, no room for stargazers...

I dunno about that... if you look closely at the back wall in this vid (around time :27) of the original movie you'll notice those aren't pipes but they look more like 2 sections of flat panels. I've always noticed that and thought that perhaps they were actually blast screens for windows because of the way they are placed in the room. It becomes even more evident at time 1:37. Take a look for yourself and you'll see what I mean... they aren't pipes... but flat panels like blast screens with a seam in the middle where they meet:

Actually, now that you mention it, I see what you mean about it looking like flat blast panels.
trust me though, it's a really big pipe. or possibly a convex section of plastic sheeting or something.

here's a lightened pic from that same scene, and again with some hightlights.

I can see the convex shape alot clearer in those pics... good job... but then again, it may not actually be a pipe... it could just be a curved blast shield for the windows. It looks like if it were a single pipe (which is evident from that shot... not two pipes) it would have a much larger diameter then would fit into that area otherwise. From the looks of it, if it were a pipe it would have a diameter of at least 3 feet or so. It wouldn't be too far off the track to assume that those are actually blast shields for the windows that rotate/slide into place to protect the interior. Would make alot more sense to. I never understood why a ship this size doesn't have any other view ports outside other then the cockpit and the turret bays. A smuggler would go stir crazy if he couldn't see outside once in while. And what would happen if he wasn't at the controls and having a nice cup of coffee, playing pong on the computer console? You'd think there would be a window there in the rec area to relax and watch the stars go by outside. What do you think?

I just want to know what client needed Han to smuggle inflated kitchen trash bags.

My guess is that the Kessel Run terminates at the Galactic Laundromat. Han's been running gangsters' unmentionables for years.

No wonder he decided to fight for the rebellion instead.

Also no wonder Jabba was so peeved about the dropped load. I'd be pissed too if some rakish space cowboy had dumped my drawers into the void just because of some imperial boarding party.

The pipe/window area: That isn't actually at ship center, is it? The port mandible is behind that, right?
(Depending on Ship of Riddles interpretation....)

yeah, it really depends on what interior you're going by.
I don't really have a favorite argument for where it's supposed to be. I sort of agree with the idea that the main hold is supposed to represent the area between the mandibles, but I won't argue for where it actually is either way. If I went by having my exterior and interior models combined at the same time, the main hold would be exploding out of the port side of the saucer, under the radar dish, and the bulkhead, if it had a window in it, would be looking a-way off into space at about 10 or 11 o'clock.

Here's a thumbnail for something that's taking its sweet time rendering.

This one has been rendering for over 40 hours at this point, and it's still not done yet. I think I'm going to pull the plug tonight and see what I get. it will be at 50+ hours by then...

Any more requests?

don't forget about the rest of the interior, and the Docking Bay. (though I'm limited right now to what I've already built)

BEAUTIFUL renders man! (y)thumbsup

I assumed those white bags weren't laundry or kitchen bags, but bagged guest pillows! :lol

Thanks guys!

Myeek, yes I figure the dirt will go in last. Althogh I have to say, aside from the kind of dingy seat upholstery, and the scuffed up foam parts, the cockpit is kind of spik-and-span. I was kind of surprised when that hit me a little while ago. This guy, who can't keep his grease, tools and dishes off every other surface on the whole ship, has a near spotless cockpit. weird.

haha, guest pillows. Shoot, I know I'd want to sleep over on the falcon.

so, for a while now I've noticed that at the end of the corridor to the cockpit, on the outside wall opposite of the back panels of the cockpit, there were some greebles and junk. I've only seen it very very murkily, but I just saw this picture at STAR WARS AFICIONADO MAGAZINE

Han-Luke_congrats_large.jpg

man, so much went into this incredible set. I'm amazed the whole movie doesn't take place on the falcon. Just two short scenes, and that's it, done with a set that's detailed around corners that are never seen. Incidentally I think this very thing is what's made star wars so long lived.

It's a short and simple story, but it's so chalk full of detail we only half see that we're endlessly tantalized by the possibilities of the universe.
