Screen Accurate Millennium Falcon Cockpit (CG Model)

Lonepigeon,

first of all, I'm honored to be complimented by a fellow, and published, Millennium Falcon scholar. It's always good to know there are people who know more about the ship than I do, because it means there's still more of her to see.

I do have a burning question, though.

Countless schematics, including those in the aforementioned Haynes guide, include a room, forward of the main hold/lounge, that is shown to be accessed through the forward bulkhead of the main hold.

what, when we both know full well that there's a gigantic 3' pipe in way, implies this room or hatchway to it? I would be gratified if you could shed some light on this for me.

I'd like to take the time to reply in full to the explosion of discourse that's been happening, but it's late, and I may or may not be on the way to getting drunk (I am). so I'll leave you with this:

A composite of the accurately dimensioned movie sets of the full scale falcon exterior and interior.

gentlemen, we may guffaw and titter at each others' attempts to reconcile the ship of riddles, but let's not forget the most impossible floor plan at all. In other words, whosoever does an OK job pulling all these details together... may the force be with them...always.

Would love a copy of your update when your done, if thats possible.

Ozzy
Now that Im back home I can check it.

The one I have saved is a word document. I've added a few extra pictures and tried to replace the VHS screen grabs with DVD screen grabs. I also scanned in the Selayana Class Blue prints since I have a copy of them. As well as my scans of the pictures of the set macquette from the 365 days book(seen earlier in this thread). I have always planned on updating the newer info and putting a footnote about the stuff but havn't gotten around to it.

Wow Dr McNinja, thanks for those pics.

I am blown away. If they are accurate details of the ESB back wall pannel, then I hit the nail on the head with my crappy graphics. The funniest thing is that whoever made those illustrations made some of the same mistakes I made. I never got around to fixing mine.

Even with a few drinks under your belt, you show humilty! Something of which I have faild on many occations LOL.

Well said and well done.

Now back on topic: What ya got to show us Steve??? I am looking forward to more of the greebles on the outside. Cant wait to see ya have a crack at the Wankel engine. If ya do, I am trying to sculpt a scale version at the moment and would like to get your views when you are into that area.

Thanks Ozzy,

still throwing details on here and there, but I'm kind of all over the place. I want to tackle the back topside of the engines next, but I'm kind of beating around the bush, procrastinating.

I'm sorry to say though, that as far as my wankels are concerned, I'm basing mine off the FS exterior greebles. Which are just boxy facsimiles of the part.

"Procrastination" Yep know him well. LOL

The engine deck is the most detailed area, maybe the "procrastination" just seems that way because nothing physical is getting done yet. Maybe like me you are just getting it right in your head before you put pen to paper, so to speek!

It works for me!!

"It's always good to know there are people who know more about the ship than I do, because it means there's still more of her to see. " - My thoughts exactly.

Does anyone have any theories as to how the freight elevator is deployed? There's a rather large... thingy, lon the underside of the Falcon where the freight elevator should be. Perhaps it's one of Han's extensive modifications and he's removed the freight elevator.

Ah! Just remembered where i saw it! That last page of the Millenium Falcon Manual seems to have pictures of the back of Robocops head and a Dinobots Brain. Whats that all about!!??

That illustration is mine. What mistakes?
It should be pretty darn accurate. It's based on a lot of reference photos and going frame by frame through ESB in HD.
Did you notice the 1138 on the door? I found that while going frame by frame and had to include it.

PS - The overall shape is based on the set blueprints.

When we did Star Wars Blueprints: The Ultimate Edition it was kind of an Easter Egg/joke. The art was smaller. When it came time to do the manual suddenly the brains were to be much larger, but we kept with the same designs. Short answer - for fun.

The elevator's intact that's why it's in the book. Those bits would have to move around as the door opens. Chris Reiff built the 3D model for the elevator. It fits. He'd know more about how it works.
The elevator placement was originally from Incredible Cross Sections.

Basically, because there needs to be a room there. The mandibles are for cargo loading and where is the cargo supposed to go? Details on the model suggest a loading system on the inside walls of the mandibles (rails/tracks etc). Interior restrictions make it impossible to access that area another way except through the pipes (there are no other doors, or even unseen forward areas to add doors). The pipes themselves are kind of ridiculous if you think about it. They're huge and have no where to go. The aft ones dead end into the circuitry bay. The forward ones would shoot out the side of the ship.
Obviously Incredible Cross Sections set a lot of details. I hate that the ship was redesigned every time a new artist tackled it in the past and there's nothing major wrong with the ICS floorplan (certainly way better than any one before. Bob Brown even liked it for the most part) so I chose to stick with it, but "correct" what I could.

Also consider that without that room the entire front starboard side of the saucer would be wasted space with no way to access it.

I wish there was something that could be done about all the vertical issues with the ship, but that's just impossible.

PS - We originally planned to have a spread about the front cargo loading system detailing how the freight loading arms worked but we ended up not having any room for it.

Just a few I have to fix on mine as well, much the same. Mine have been posted on this site for years now.

Amazon says the book won't be out until January. How do you guys already have it?

I'm in the UK and according to amazon, the book was released here on the 3rd of November... which is odd seen as though I purchased it on the 28th of October, take note that it wasn't a pre-order but a regular purchase. It was dispatched on the 30th and I took delivery on the 1st or 2nd... and all that for a half price.

I can tell you for a fact that blue square light is there. It's not just a shadow. There's a nice clear photo showing it in the book.

Good call on those missing panel lines. I assume they're red? They barely show up in B&W shots.

The lightbox - not sure how I forgot that but I see it now. It's not the whole panel, it's an inset rectangle close to the door.

Those bottom panels would have been nice to include. I didn't see them in any of the reference I had.

I wondered about the lower light boxes too, but I assumed you had found a reference where they had been turned off.

found a reference, they're there alright.

does anybody know what the hell those are? they're everywhere, from ANH on-ward.
