Re: WIP 1:350 USS Reliant I'm building for a friend
I would say that from a practicality standpoint, it isn't worth it to cast a PL saucer for a one off. The amount of resin and RTV needed would easily exceed the price of one or two PL kits, not to mention the trial and error of coming up with a saucer that is bubble free and hollow to allow for lights. Plus, then you have to use either epoxy or CA to bond it with the plasticard assemblies when plastic weld glues would work fine if it were in styrene. Only way to potentially make it work would be to do a few saucers, but then you get more into the darker side of that "gray" area as I see it.
Getting back on topic, this is looking incredible. I can see you've already done a ton of work on this and the results are just fabulous! I am curious as to how big the studio scale Reliant model built was as at a glance, this one could be getting close to that size.
Under these circumstances, would making a cast of the PL primary hull be taboo? Since the goal is an entirely different ship?
