Scored a $60 full Sized Ark of the Covenant

After watching Raiders yesterday I thought I'd check local ads for a cheap 1:6 Hasbro Ark of the Covenant and I came across an ad for a bunch of Egyptian/Indy style decorations being sold. The couple moved into a guys home who does work for home theaters and had left behind the stuff. They didn't want all of it so they were selling the rest. The full sized "Cairo" crate looked very cool but I don't have room for the Ark let alone a big crate..although it would have made a cool large coffee table.

Here are pics of the Ark. It was used to house some home theater equipment so it's got some holes..which is a shame..and one pole is missing but for $60...

It's MDF with what seems like foam and wood for the cherubs and plastic trim around the top. It's all gold leafed which is falling off in a lot of places. A little rough around the edges..but again for $60...heck of a start!

Now where the heck will I put this thing!? I really have no idea right now..

I am thinking of putting it the corner with my other Indy stuff and using it as a shelf for my movies, games etc. I think a shelf that looks like the Ark makes more sense than anything given my space limits.

I know what you mean about lack of space- the wife would freak if I brought something like that home (I wouldn't be able to resist at THAT price though!).

The display shelf sounds like a great idea!

Thanks guys! It's good to be hated for the right reasons.

Here is a pic of it in it's home. I had the detolf centered where the "Ark' is now so I moved it just around the corner and removed an end table I never used. The KOTCS poster (yeah I know) was sitting atop the detolf so I just hung it between the top 2 pictures.

I took the games out of one of 3 ottomans and put them in the "Ark". This freed up an ottoman for the kids toys. I'll add my movies another time. Glad to have somewhere to store my movies and games now.

Hope it doesn't look too cramped. It actually seems to make that corner look bigger and it was unusable space as it was anyways.

I may add a hinged door someday that resembles the side artwork to the Ark to neaten it up a bit, but for now I am happy.

The pic with the flash makes the stuff inside appear too much. It's really dark there and you really can't see the stuff inside.

Edit: Added one last pic with the light in the Detolf on over the Golden Idol. The pic (with no flash) makes it appear brighter than it is..but it is a nice accent light in the room.
