Scarecrow: Arkham Knight

Hey guys. For this halloween I decided what better way to freak everyone out around me than with Scarecrow. I've wanted to do this costume since I first saw his design, and thought why not now. The first thing I worked on is the mask. I sculpted it with EM-210 water clay. This made for quickly blocking out the forms. For the respirator part I designed and 3-d printed that to save some time. And the teeth were made with tooth molds I had and then implanted in clay for the gums. Up to this point I have molded the mask, and this morning I did a test cast with alginate. This allow's me to see if I have any problems that need to be fixed, by cutting out triangle sections and checking thicknesses before I go ahead with the foam latex cast. There are a few spots that need sanding down, but otherwise it should do the trick. I hope to have a foam casting done this weekend.

After several attempts at casting the Scarecrow mask, I finally had a mostly usable piece. I had problems with the foam collapsing during the baking process in my first attempts. I decided to fix this I would lower my baking temp by 20 degrees, and add 2 hours to the baking time. That seems to have done the trick, I just need to add a couple of bleeder holes in the negative now to allow for steam to escape for a few problem areas. But for now I will use this as a test piece for painting and assembling the other components. I finished my design for the gauntlet so I'll begin constructing that in foam in the near future as well. I'm thinking with the final costume I will glue down the eyebrow area, just to help with movement.

Had some time to do a test paint on the mask today. Came out ok. There are a few places that need a little lighter touch, and some places that need a heavier touch. Overall I think I've learned enough for the final mask I'll be wearing. I still need to cast up the teeth to finish puttting together this test piece.

Well it was a mad dash to the end, but I finished most of what I wanted to get finished. I still want to add a knee brace at some point in the future, but all in all I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I didn't get any other progress photos. The gauntlet was done in foam, as well as the finger needle parts. All of the tubing I got from Home Depot, and painted the inside of them for the venom effect. I found an old trench coat at a thrift store and weathered it up a bit. The venom vials are just 1 1/2" PVC pipe with caps on both ends. I then formed some thin acrylic in the hole and painted the back of them for the venom effect. I made it so I could still open the bottom of the vials and insert some glow sticks into them to get a cool glowing effect. Unfortunately I didn't get a good photo of that in action. I did get a chance to do a photo shoot with the costume, and just received a few of them.

Yeah, that turned out excellent. I really like how the mask and glove ended up. You all look great together.
