Salzo and CC quality?

Besides the differences, which kit is better in terms of casting quality?
I ask because I had a CC kit and the casting was top quality, with clean super sharp details and no warpage anywhere, couldn't get better.

I also got a Hero Salzo kit from a second source and the wings are slightly warped and so are the half moon engine parts, anyone experienced these same issues?

Before I pay someone to have it built and painted I want the best quality kit. I loved the qualty of my CC but unfortunately someone I trusted to build it totally ruined it, very sloppy assembly and paintjob, I know who I can trust now.

A few Heros and Ver 1 were like this GF, its not a bother, i think Mike does great work TBH, and ive had a few parts that were suspect, but Mike was ALWAYS on hand to pick up the pieces and hook me up, in record time mostly too!
Wing warpage is one that ive seen on all three kits ive built, but its an easy fix, as are the cans (now and then they seem to go out of "round") again, hot water, push back to shape and bingo.
Another one on the wings were air bubbles on the lead edges, this has always plagued Mike im told by the man himself, but instead of filling, a styrene plate does wonders and makes the job so neat.

In all, either kit buddy, but Heros are getting harder to find from my experience! Look forward to the new addition though :)

bests.....lee

I'd second what Lee has said. Don't worry about the warping they are all easy fixes and worth every square inch of kit you get from Mike.

I've had 3 X-Wing kits from Mike, and none of them have had any problems with localized warpage, or bubbles. While I know stuff like that can happen, I think it's generally pretty rare, especially with a Salzo kit. Keep in mind that these are garage kits and as such cannot be expected to assemble like an injection-molded styrene kit. The latest X-Wings Mike sold need the fuse halves aligned and clamped at the aft end in prep for the join. Resin is a tricky media, too. Letting the parts sit unassembled increases the likelihood that some heat will need to be used to restore the intended shape prior to assembly.

I've had kits from both sellers, as well. They are both quality casters in my experience.

Hi GF, I have a salzo x wing kit, I haven't built it yet, but after examining the parts very closely I can't see any problems with any of them, they are beautifully cast.
I'm sure, as Lee sez, any warpage that becomes apparent during assembly is an easy fix with hot water.

I had a couple of those rings that go on the wing guns missing at first, but Mike sent replacements within ten days, I reckon from usa to uk in ten days is pretty darn good...so no problems there.

Cheers

I've built 3 of them, one of them had some slight warpage in the wings but it was a very easy fix with hot water also. It might have been my fault, because I took all the pieces out of the packing then put them loose back in the box and left it out in the shop where it got well over 100 F.

But it turned out fine in the in the end

(shameless plug of my build up :lol)

I spoke with Mike on the phone a few years ago, when I was thinking about investing in the Jim Key's master Raider pieces. Mike was extremely knowledgeable in the model world. I was very impressed, and it seems to me that something like a warped piece would have never left his bench. I have since seen many of his pieces, and his work is very impressive. I have no idea if a casting can warp at a later date, but if the piece was bought 2nd source things do happen.

Thanks for the info guys, I feel much better now.

Rel, that's a beautiful build

The warps were very slight and are now fixed, BTW this is a original Salzo and not a recast, it was bought from someone who had this kit for a while and maybe it did occur the way it was stored.
