I've seen a picture of the collar laying flat and it is pretty much square at the tips. Any apparent distortion is simply from distressing, the strap pulling it in, or simply the angle of the camera.
Hi Indy, could you please recall the pic you mean on the forum? is it from a movie coat, newer, or something from the propstore I missed? just curiousI've seen a picture of the collar laying flat and it is pretty much square at the tips. Well, with respect, the overwhelming body of visual evidence suggests otherwise. I think chalking everything up to being deceived by distressing and camera angles is a stretch, frankly.I've seen a picture of the collar laying flat and it is pretty much square at the tips. I think it's incredibly unlikely that propstore washed this at all, that would have been the costume department on the film or sony. But given the unwashed condition of all the other pieces in the auction, it doubt it was anyone other than the costume department. It looks like this sweater was washed on the 'standard cycle', together with the t-**** long sleeve — they made a huge mistake, ruining a legendary piece, sigh... Now the 'lucky buyer' who bid over $1000 will get a size S at best (maybe M-), lol. I’ve often come across items like this at flea markets (everywhere), and you really need to be careful with the size, especially if the sweater isn’t new; it’s better to double-check the measurements.

This is from the 2015 collection, and it’s hard to believe how much time has passed...
I still have one last size L (Ryan Gosling’s size, check out the James Perse L long sleeve), like new and never washed, stored in a tomb with proper care for 5 or even 6 years, haha,
which I’m ready to tear away from my heart <3.

It seems the point has come when a tipical italian would say "butta la pasta" (put the pasta in the pot...ready to cook)...which would mean, at this point, anything goes...the only way to figure how those props actually are, it's really manage to get access and appointment, take a plane, and that's it.I think it's incredibly unlikely that propstore washed this at all, that would have been the costume department on the film or sony. Hi guys, just some musings on the video and a few further thoughts.
Color-wise the coat does indeed look dark green and waxed -as Adam underlined in his previous video when undertaking his coat replica some time ago. As to the PropStore rep saying it may be black cotton, spray-painted green, well, who knows... It would have needed to be sprayed on very evenly and, if that's the case, blemishes, cracking and fading would probably been a factor at some point (especially on the stunt coats), which seems to be absent. Needless to say, even Adam seemed pretty bemused by this added bit of information/supposition.
As discussed, SR's coat color very successfully emulates the color grating of the Mesa Trash scenes but doesn't match the color in other scenes because, as is pretty obvious by now, it was simply never the coat's actual color.
Regarding the collar, from the vantage point below, the collar's long side does appear to have curvature and its edge slightly angled, as opposed to being a rectangular extension that is squared off.

Visually, this also appears to be the case here (an older image of what seems to be the very same coat)

I guess this issue will never be put to bed until someone actually lays out the collar flat against a table.
Pattern-wise one thing BEP/ELS does get right (and SR and WSL both get wrong) is that the movie coat does not have a side seam coming down from on the lower half of the coat. Kudos to Jameel in this regard.

Another thing SR seems to do (SR owners please confirm) is that the thread used for stitching does not match the coat's color but is rather a lighter shade. While it looks pretty cool, it's another non-SA detail.

I put down an order with ELS, emailed Jameel about adding a bigger curved collar, sent him photos of propstore coat as well as some pics from members here about the collar issue. Lots of nice details of the coat thanks to propstore and rpf members. I heard it fell on deaf ears when this info was sent to Jameel.Hey, guys! Just spent the last week playing catch up and reading all of these comments and replies. I'm looking to finally pull the trigger on one of these jackets, particularly either the ESL/BEP or WSL options. I love the way Jameel's coat captures a lot of the tiny, accurate details, but it seems it's more on the "lightweight" side, where as the WSL seems a bit more like it could function as an actual coat. You see, I'm a stickler for details, but I'm an even bigger stickler for actual practicality and functionality. I know none of these coats perfectly encapsulate the jacket on screen, but I'd love to try and get as close to the real deal as possible while having something I could actually wear in the cold. From what I gathered, the WSL may be the best bet in that case, but I'm still curious how Jameel's coat would hold up, and if there's any possible way it can be ordered to be a bit heftier. Its more accurate collar certainly makes it a heavy contender, which is why im hoping there's some mods that can be commissioned at checkout to make it better suited for the cold while keep those accurate details. The coating on the fabric won't be an issue for me; I have the Flint and Tinder jacket Pedro Pascal wore in The Last of Us and have re-coated the wax once, so attempting to wax a bigger jacket seems like a fun hurdle to tackle. I think both jackets look fantastic, but i really want it to be practical and not just a cosplay prop. WSL's price is certainly appealing, and if it wears more like an actual coat then I may be willing to try (key word there) and order from them with the custom collar mods. But I truly love that Jameel's nails a lot of the details, so if it could possibly be bulked up it'd be perfect! So which option/route would be best for me? Any recommendations or feedback would be a huge hand in helping me narrow down a choice!![]()
I bought a BEP coat in laminated (PU/spandex-like) dark twill, then twisted it myself, originally it was decently warm to me, but I made strongly quilted since the lining deteriorated quickly, even well before my mad experiments on the coat.Hey, guys! I originally had a WSL coat and now I've had my BEP coat for about a year once I realized I wanted something a little more fine tuned to the movie. The WSL coat is definitely a heavier material and bulkier coat but some things to keep in mind are that it's more of a stark green color, its shearling is kinda rough and unpleasant, and a lot of the little details aren't quite there (magnets and collar adjustments and such, even if you ask the communication is very poor).Hey, guys! If I understood well, that guy said "it's like waxed canvas, but not wax...it seems very hi-tech..."Thanks for the tips guys! Shot an email to Jameel so I'll find out if the jacket can be bulked up
Also saw this video about the propstore jackets was uploaded recently!
It doesn't say anything brand new (despite a contradiction to the Adam Savage video where the coat is said to NOT be waxed) but it's nice to see the coat under different lighting.
Hi Jameel good work on your coats!Hey all,
Here is my previous coat images that I think close to propstore images.
This coat will always be the same as the white and gold/blue and black dress from a few years ago to me. I can see it in a thousand videos and photos and different lights and still can't tell what color it is. It's like someone asked if it's green, aqua, gray, or black and the person responded "yes."Thanks for the tips guys! Shot an email to Jameel so I'll find out if the jacket can be bulked up
