Runaway spider

AWESOME PROPS eltee! :thumbsup

Very entertaining flick! I remember seeing this opening night with two of my friends at the time when we were in Dun! DUN! DHAAA!....

8TH GRADE! OMG!!! :wacko

:cheers

We just watched this flick last night (Netflix PS3 Streaming). Really neat film if not a bit cheesy. I would really like to see some pics of the screen used pistol. I really liked some of the robots in the film. They deserve a place in the sci-fi prop hall of fame. Especially the little agricultural guys in the beginning of the movie.

Eltree's prop looks like it was based on a 1911. funny as it seemed like Selleck was carrying a chromed 1911 for most of the movie.

so does your original work? or is it static, cool either way

Hi. If you are asking about my spider, yes, it was a functioning hero prop. Still works. It's all aluminum and brass, so not much to break. Pretty incredible design as the legs arc and swing as it moves. Uses a speedometer cable for propulsion. You can see from this pic how the speedo cable attaches. On the other end of the cable is a variable speed hand drill.

Here are some shots of the actual prop gun. I have some others. Matsuo and I did alot of research on this piece.

Eltee, we really should look into replicating that bad boy in the near future for our homeboys at the other forum :D

Pretty labor intensive if done in all metal...but I agree. :cool

Those guys seemed to be pretty well heeled so maybe they could afford the cost of a machined, all metal, crawling spider. :love

well, if all goes as planned this year, i will have my own cnc machine, so that might help a bit :). I have been dying for one of these eversince i saw the movie as a youngster, they scared the crap out of me.

I need to stop at the grocery store, they have a ton of the movie on sale for 10.00. I remember first seeing this in the 80s during the afternoon movie they'd run in the summer.

It's a small world after all.

Hi Eltee, You are correct in another post about there being others. there's yours of which you acquired from me aprox. 1995 through an AOhell ad. , there's 2 others which I had also. Those two were the worse condition, yours and mine were the best. Mine, the prize, in my opinion, [grin] for it is not operated by a transmission cable but radio remote control.. I do believe you acquired a major score as, about 5-8 year ago I spoke with a major international collector who said they'd be worth $5k plus. Lucky I had no clue at the time.

Albeit, I've never cleaned mine off, just sat on a shelf collecting dust as well, nor tested any of the three remotes that came with the four. I'd found the four in a box at a yard sale in, of all places, Joplin Mo, about 1990.
I just happened to, out of curiosity, ran a search for 'Runaway' spider yesterday and I saw yours so, figured I'd add to your post and shot a photo last night.
