Steve McQueen MAGNIFICENT 7 Shirt

I'd like to share my joy at welcoming back an old friend to the fold. I sold this piece, in 2006, along with a truck load of stuff at PIH, in a weak moment of poverty. It was one of a few pieces I really regretted losing. It returned to JULIENS last month giving me a chance at redemption, although, they recorded the 2006 sale, correctly noting a pocket had been added and removed, they stated that MAG 7 use could not be confirmed. I beg to differ...below I show areas of screen matching of which the most unusual is the sewn trim at the ends of the cuffs, instead of the original material forming the border. Also, the black buttons have been replaced with white ones.

McQueen dons the jersey at the 50 minute mark, as the 7 arrive at the village, and wears it for the rest of the film, sweating, hitting the dirt, digging ditches, and mostly making a mess of it. The shirt still shows the remnants of that use. McQueen died at age 50 having only made 23 films, and only in one other does he wear these 19th century collarless shirts, and that is in THE REIVERS, although they are mostly blousy, floral patterns - and none are salmon in color. The shirt has it's custom made MACHIN LA label, printed MADE EXPRESSLY FOR STEVE MCQUEEN.

It also, to me, seems strange that the end of the collar tab is not dyed, as one would think the entire shirt would be submerged in the vat of dye. Maybe they had hold of that with an implement to dunk it in and out. I sold it with a set of German color stills, which I felt demonstrated these matches, but they were not offered this time.
