Rubies Supreme Boba Fett

It's better than I feared, but a guy with some cardboard, bondo, and a little bit of know-how could make a full Fett more accurate and a few hundred cheaper.

Mandalorian Mercs

And I have a bone to pick with their group too, due to their extremely lax costuming standards...:unsure

At least you can fertilize your plants with crap. This pile of plastic won't even biodegrade...

My opinion of the Mando Mercs is well known throughout the Boba and Mando community.
here i am amongst them at the Fanboys Movie Premiere in Hollywood last year in my Non-Rubies supreme boba

The shame..

I looked into the M Mercs, and some of the custom designs were cool, but there are a lot of things that look reaaaalllllly cheap, and a lot of paint jobs that reflect no eye for color or design whatsoever. Bright, tacky, lost of people wearing soccer pads, and the popularity or repainted Nerf guns is mystifying. They look like...repainted Nerf guns. Eeeewwwww. There's also a preponderance of members who ought to go jogging for their art. I'd say 1 in 10 looks really solid.

I think if you could pick up the rubies "super supreme crapola" Fett at a garage sale for say, under $100 bucks, might be fun to turn it into the 1978 Holiday Special animated Fett. Add a little paint, cheesey thigh holster and volla! The helmet looks about the same!:lol

Agreed that the price is way too much! I would love to get started on a Fett as my first "Armor" charecter, but i know it will be a long time work in progress to make it "right".

Wow its not half as bad as I feared. Still not good but its not absoluetly horrid either.

A good custom mando looks awesome. Unfortunatly those are maybe 1 in every 10.

That's a good price, and no doubt sturdy quality gear, but I also know if you're willing to do some fiberglassed cardboard, make your own boots, and settle for less quality while still maintaining 90% visual accuracy you can do it for half that: which is to say, the Rubies still ain't much of a bargain!

Your suit looks really sharp by the way. My new addiction is the dented helmet!

That's a great boba above at a silly cheap price!

I really didn't like the mando merc idea at first... but I have met a few of them and you know... I would rather see a guy who isn't boba sized in a custom pink mando than a guy who is 5'6 230 lbs in a accurately painted boba costume! LOL!

Let them have fun! :)

Seriously.

The first licensed helmet I ever bought was a rubies "collectors" clone helmet. I had no idea about anything but the promo picture looked ok to my (at the time) woefully undereducated eye. What arrived looked absolutly nothing like the photo Id seen. It was aweful. I tried calling the company numerous times and couldn't get a refund. Which brings me to my point. How are they allowed to advertise with images that are not of the actual product? In my country at least, this is actually illegal. The product shown must be the actual product being sold. Does this law not exist in the states?

If you look hard enough, almost any product you buy has a disclaimer similar to this:

"Actual product may vary." That covers them from a lot of false advertisement law suits.

I like it a lot actually. Wouldn't take much to make it look even better. Too many people hating on this forum. If it looks just like the photo then it's pretty damn cool.

WRONG!!!
Some one on the TDH posted photos of one he bought prior to knowing anything about FETT, he was sorry he wasted his money...
Basically he said he spent $800 on a jumpsuit and vest.. the rest was cheap plastic that was flimsy with a piss poor paint job!

I agree, for a person thats not a hard core Star wars nerd, it could be an alternative. It needs a lower price though.

And whats the point in bashing the Mandalorian Mercs? As long as people have fun with their hobby, why hate?:unsure

You're right--my comments were snarky. Not everyone has the cash to do a movie-quality suit, and some of the outfits are actually very creative. It's about having fun, precisely.

I'm not a big Boba Fett nerd, so forgive my ignorance for asking this, but is the visor area supposed to taper down like it does on the nice helmet in that pic? The Rubies one is straight, the other seems to get smaller towards the bottom. Certainly the paint is a huge difference, no question.

No, it's not. It's a major boo-boo in the MR helmet.

The weathering on that rubies is...interesting. A few long strokes of silver paint does not make for realistic battle damage. :(

Is it that crappy Roto Vinyl they use on the regular helmet line or a better material? I mean the helmet could be salvaged with a repaint from looking at it.

If you're going to repaint it what's the point in buying it ?
The whole point of an out the box costume is surely that it's ready to go out the box, you wouldn't buy a ready to eat chicken and have to cook it yourself.

There are raw helmet kits that aren't all that expensive which you could paint yourself and end up with a far better finished helmet than repainting that thing.
