Does can anyone help identify what material Boba Fett's kama (the half cape that starts at his belt) is made of?

Amazing. Thanks a ton. I've never heard that term before today.

Do you know of any place that sells yards of it?
I've never ordered from them before so I cannot personally vouch but I like the weave and drape on this one: Solid Washed Ramie Slub A104303
(I tend to gravitate towards buying white or beige fabric and dyeing it myself because I can get the color right and it lends a bit of a subtle imperfect/weathered look. ramie is a natural fiber similar to cotton so you can use fiber reactive dyes or rit dye, the fiber reactive type is much more colorfast and strong but the rit dye might be a bit easier to apply) You can probably find one in the right color with googling savvy and creative color descriptions if you are more patient than I am haha

Thats not a bad idea. But that fabric seems a little thin and somewhat stiff.

I wonder what type of processing they did. I've been hearing that they may have had a one off fabric made specifically for their show.

It seems like a very soft but thick cotton slub. All the slub i'm finding seems to be fairly sheer. Though i know that the end product is supposed to have a silk under layer.

Hmm, maybe it's some sort of wool? A lot of the fabrics that look sort of right texturally (boucle? jute?) are upholstery fabrics and those are usually quite stiff. Is there a fabric store near you? It's exceedingly tricky to buy online unfortunately. I would be surprised if it was custom, custom fabric is realllly expensive and would be a super unnecessary waste of budget... although I suppose there's nothing stopping you (except sanity) from weaving it yourself lol. Processing wise, as long as a fabric is non synthetic you can wash it a bunch and rub it on concrete a bit to soften it which will also help with weathering

Another alternate option because I've actually used this for a project before and have a better sense of the texture, it's soft and opaque but not technically a by the yard fabric: Knotted Fringe Throw Blanket White - Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia: Cotton Dobby Weave, Farmhouse Style, 55x80"

I did buy this kit a while back for another cosplay and it has a very similar looking fabric to the kama, but its still a little thin.

But it has the flow and softness to it, just not the "raw" look.

That throw rug would be hilarious if its correct.

Go to the 501st CrL for Boba Fett, Mandalorian season 2. They describe what was used for that suit and I imagine it is the exact same material for BOBF. Per the CRL it is raw silk.

I've seen the CRL for S2 and i've seen the preliminary CRL for the Daimyo Fett. The material for the S2 looks quite different as it has a tighter weave and does not fray the same. S2 mando and Daimyo have quite a few other differences. The kama Boba wears in BOBF is the same material he wore for his tusken robes. It looks to be closer to a linen or cotton than a silk, as any raw silk i've found is too thin.

The MMCC CRL also only say "Cotton or Silk weave". Which is helpful, but is similar to saying "Its a Toyota Sedan". Theres many different types of cotton or silk weave but from what i've seen on Dented Helmet, 501st boards, MMCC boards, Reddit, Boba Fett Builders on Facebook, and in the Bounty Hunters Guild, the actual material was made specifically for the show and is going to be extremely hard to find.

I do believe that the closest match is a cotton slub weave with a silk layer underneath.

I may be wrong and i'm very open to being shown proof, but as for now i see it as being a different fabric.

I just happened to be going on a target run before the storm and grabbed one. It looks pretty close to the material but of course not as thick. It has the correct weave and such. So i'll attempt to stone wash it a little and maybe a little dye to see how close i can match the look.

You wouldn't happen to have a source for accurate belt rope material for the Mando one would you? I have the Pet Hardware stuff but I would love to get the real stuff.

Okay so thats another contentious part. The daimyo girthbelt looks like it has 14 black braided ropes that are 10.5mm wide.

However, speaking with some people who have ton a lot of research, they believe it to be a custom printed fabric that is a black and white chevron sewn over foam tubes.

Its debatable which one is correct, but the end result is pretty similar.

That being said, i found this website that sells a similar looking rope.

Thanks.

I'm definitely planning on the silk liner, but i feel like the matka might be too tight of a weave and doesnt have the right thickness. its very close though. I think it comes down to what do people who are in that type of climate usually wear, and thats usually the linens, silks, some cottons. But his looks to have a thickness to it

This is of course not taking into account the potential for different costumes worn in the show by different actors portraying Boba. One difference you can see is there are scenes where Boba is wearing different colored gaiters that are less red than usual.
