Royal Guard - The Force Unleashed

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

I already have the chest, back, shoulder straps, shoulders, and shins taken care of. Your ab plate and boot armor would save me some hassle, and I'd have to see what you do for your gauntlets compared to my idea (as yet un-tackled).

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

Could I just re-print the ab plate and boot armor for you? Those parts I was not planning to mold.

One little caveat is that I modeled the ab plate to fit flush with the underside of my chest armor..I don't know how well it will fit other chest armor.

That'd work, too. For the ab plate, the curvature and size look right. Worst case scenario, I'm back to my quick-n-dirty original plan. *shrug*

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

Trying to get this done before the end of November, so I went ahead and searched for the right spray paint. I wanted it to match as close as possible the same red fabric that I'm using for the kama, but its proven way too difficult to get an exact match. I also read that people who troop as Royal Guard rarely are matching reds anyways, and any pictures taken tend to wash things out a bit so they look more or less the same red color.

The shin guard here was my first rattlecan that I found at home depot (Apple Red). I was OK with it at the time but realized its actually kind of too dark? I'm not sure if its got too much orange or maybe purple in it even, regardless, I wasn't happy with it.

My next rattlecan was Safety Red (tested on the boot armor), which I think really hit the spot. And that's what I'll be doing the rest of the armor with.

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

Quick update: Received my boots and tackled how I was going to attach all the armor to the soft parts. I decided to go with snap buttons so they'd stay on securely but could also be taken off if need be.

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

I managed to space on this. From the reference you posted, thought you were doing a Shadow Guard... despite the thread title. :facepalm

The best red I've found -- that's actually so close a match as to be almost indistinguishable -- is Rustoleum's Regal Red. Looks good in person, photograph's brilliantly. Picture's will be coming soon, to show what I mean.

...Of course, it would be awesome if Photobucket hadn't borked their upload function... Quite a few people haven't been able to upload anything for over a week now. So I'll revise my last. Pictures eventually. :behave

I just use Imgur..

Did you get the ab plate yet?

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

Oh! Yeah. Over a week ago. :) Smoothed off some of those crisp edges to look a bit more vac-formed, did some other things... Working on priming and minor-defect-filling/smoothing a lot of pieces this week, and hopefully painting for realz over the next week. It fits everything perfectly -- my build, the chest plate, everything.

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

Are you selling castings of your Gauntlets and shoulder armor?

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

Hey, don't look at me! I don't have gauntlets yet, either. :p Just a template and an idea.

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

I meant when you make them. I'm making a Shadowguard and I'm trying to find the armor pieces. I'm looking for the shoulder pieces, shin guards and foot armor as well. I was assuming that you were making gauntlets.

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

Lol well okay then, I'll post pics of my gauntlets for you all to judge after my dentist apppintment today :(

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

I'm still sanding smooth the gauntlets but here's a progress shot..

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

I had to re-paint the shins because I forgot to spray them with white primer the first time I painted them, and the red is noticeably darker with grey primer underneath. At least it is consistent with how I've painted the other armor parts now.

Pardon the makeshift "drying rack". Painting everything would be a lot easier if I was an octopus.

*chuckle* Oh, I know for makeshift drying racks. I keep old rattlecans and 2-liter bottles (weighted), and use a loop of blue painters' tape to hold whatever I'm painting to it, so I can then move the stand around without touching the painted thing. I've currently got five helmets, three chest plates, two sets of shoulders, and your belly armor in varying stages of painting at the moment. Much shuffling involved there.

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

Have you decided what to do for your gauntlets?

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

Swivel up at the elbow end, rare-earth magnet at the wrist end. Shaped sintra, so it'll have the flex to push my hand through, and then the magnet to ensure it stays cleanly closed.

Re: Royal Guard Helmet - The Force Unleashed

Yeah that flex will come in real handy..I just about have to lube my hand up to get it through but with some backing and forthing I can get it on. I'm not sure if I should use anything to keep them in place as they are rather snug with the undersuit on, since the extra loose fabric sorta fills in the negative spaces.
