Royal Guard Helmet build thread

Thanks. It doesn't appear to be available over here unfortunately.

Ack. I missed that you were UK. Um... Crud. That RustOleum colour really is about the best inexpensive off-the-shelf match over here. The original paint job was inspired by the Candy Apple Red of the hot rods of George's youth, but washed out too light on film under the set lights, so they went with a darker shade. Ironically, what they ended up with was a dead ringer for a shade BMW introduced the following year (only a slight shade difference from their previous incarnation): BMW 138, aka Zinnoberrot (Cinnabar Red). Monofil is the UK maker I know for sure has it as a repainting/touch-up colour, including in rattlecans.. It's on the UK eBay, if no place near you has it on the shelf. I can't remember if we're allowed to post links to that site, though...

Thats a really nice job. I'm just in the midst of 3d printing one of these, hopefully it will turn out as nice as this one.

Is that the Ferarri Red or did you go with something else?

I used good old Krylon gloss red, with Krylon Crystal Clear. That's it. And the colour is spot on. Well, actually there's no spot on colour since how colour looks always depends on lighting, unless you are aiming to use the same paints that they used on the set. ;)

Its always difficult matching up any paints, but that looks nice. Its good to know that you can get that kind of look from a standard red.

Excellent info, thanks. My local Halfords has it.

Halfords BMW 'Zinnobar Red' car spray paint The Halfords BMW 'Zinnobar Red' car spray paint is an exact match for the BMW codes 138.

I'll give that a go first, when I get to that stage.
