RoTJ Lightsaber screwdriver

Interesting read, I see what you mean about the three arms...

The search continues.

Yeah I’m still constantly looking... now fooling around with 3d printing and my printer on its way, I think I’m just going to fabricate my 3rd arm

Well if anybody does an official run of this, I bet a lot of people would pick it up.

If we can figure out the dimensions of it, I'd love to get it professionally machined and do a run of them.

I am at a loss to understand why they don’t have true screwdrivers in the “Star Wars” universe.

Well, at least they do have some sort of version of duct / duck tape to fix everything, just like in our universe, as evidenced by the V2 neck.

I suggest looking for “antique calipers” or “antique scribing tools”...you’re bound to run across them:

Toms on to it. In my findings it was late 1800s where the top parts started to look close

I also found some close ones when searching “antique German drawing compass”

Do some of these prop guys take pleasure in using the most obscure real world pieces to make props?

The sense I've gotten in all the research I've done is that prop shops tend to accumulate weird stuff like this, because you never know what's going to work for a movie. Props guys LOVE going to junk shops, antique shows, things like that, and just picking up weird miscellanea on the cheap. Especially back before everything could just be CG.

Do you guys get the feeling that a prop this small and simple would be something that was readily available to them, and so more likely something contemporary rather than an obscure antique version of what they might have a modern equivalent of? Therefore looking at technical drawing sets from the 70s and 80s might be the key.

Nonetheless, the knobbly structure at the top seems more ornate than the functionally designed instruments, so it's difficult to work out.

Indeed, good point! The complete opposite of what I suggested which means that it's a much wider field of items to look through!

so I'm watching ESB right now and noticed something...

this scene here, when chewie starts playing with cpo's neck, you can see the other end of his "screw driver" to me it looks exactly like the tips of lukes screw driver he's using to work on his lightsaber...

first scene at 4:48

second scene 4:57 REAL good sight of the tips

third scene 5:06-finish

could this be the same tool!? if so we get a excellent picture of the other end of it!!

I looked closer at this.... the tool itself might be rod-like, and the end seems to be clear plastic. The rod is like glued into what looks like a fake clear gemstone

Probably a found part though, thats so hokey!

Yeah I think it’s a drafting tool with a greeblie on the top, of you notice the point the finger looks similar

It looks like it might be some sort of a Crystal Light Pull Cord Weight...

Though it could be really weird foreshadowing if it was one of these...

Some of these would make neat lightsaber crystals...

The greeblie could also be some sort of crystal towel rod finial.

Yet ANOTHER thing to search endlessly for. :(

Good eye! Yea that type of found part would make sense, it's crazy that you can see the part of the rod glued inside the greeblie, but other things in SW are blurry as hell
