Hi RPF, I've been a member here for a long time, but I've never made a thread about one of my builds, so here goes: this is my nearly complete EVA helmet from halo reach- it was a helmet that I had never seen done adequately before, so I chose it, instead of an easier helmet. I started with pep, I'm sorry but I forgot who's file it was that got used.
i went to to work with bondo and apoxie sculpt, using reference pictures to correct both my own mistakes, and minor inaccuracies in the pep file itself. Using some cheapo needle files I started scribing in the inset details on the visor- I have no experience vacuforming, but from what I've read those lines should (hopefully) show through to the finished visor.
I didn't like the way the cheek boxes looked, so I cut them off, and made some new ones out of a no parking sign- my version came out slightly larger than the ones in game, but I felt that they looked more halo-ey.
After more sanding, I started to make the circular details on the ears of the helmet from apoxie sculpt
a little more sanding, some primer and a drill bit used by hand finished off the ears
some more sanding, glazing putty, epoxy and priming led me to this, the final result:
theres still a few defects I noticed because of that picture- I'll get them stitched up directly.
this week the plan is to start making a modest vac table, and cutting the helmet into pieces so it can fit over a humans head. Updates to come, thanks for reading.
