Roddy McDowall 1:1 Scale Cornelius FINISHED PICS PG 3!!

Re: Roddy McDowall 1:1 Scale Cornelius WIP

Cool! I thought so. I knew you, Mark Bradley, and the guys at Sci Fi World in 98-99. Lost contact with the guys at the shop since it closed. You stay in contact with them?

I still communicate with Rob Knauf, and Josh Pickens quite a bit through Facebook and talk to Tony Altomare every once in a while. Marc Hammond works over at Acme now so I make it a point to go by there every time I'm in the old town...Not often enough!

There's just nothing like the old days at Sci Fi World, though!

Awesome Sculpt!

You really nailed that one!!!!!!!!

Re: Roddy McDowall 1:1 Scale Cornelius WIP

Welcome to the RPF Scott!

Wow, love the sculpt...can't wait to see the progress.

POTA busts seem to be few and far between around here...I guess because they're so hard to do?

Watching this one with interest. :thumbsup

Definitely, I remember the blast we had costuming for EPISODE 1 at Pleasure Islands AMC theatre. :lol

Re: Roddy McDowall 1:1 Scale Cornelius WIP

Thanks again to all for your gracious feedback! It means so much to me, guys! I should have more pics within the next day or two. I'll keep you all posted!

Re: Roddy McDowall 1:1 Scale Cornelius WIP

Sorry this update wound up taking so long! I received four high-resolution set photos of the make-up on Roddy McDowall from two scenes in POTA and realized I had to do some slight mods to the sculpted prosthetics. Just when you think you're done... LOL!

Well, here are the fruits of that labor! I hope you guys like it!

Now it's on to sculpting the two sets of teeth and of course the molding! I'll post updates as we get closer to the finishing stage. Again, special thanks to my buddy, Clay Sayre, for the use of his vast library of stills from POTA! I must have combed through HUNDREDS of photos of the different Roddy make-up's used during the couse of filming... Learned some stuff I never knew before!

Re: Roddy McDowall 1:1 Scale Cornelius WIP...UPDATED

Thanks again, guys! I'm glad you like what you see so far. This week I'll be gathering supplies for the next stages and working on the teeth. I'll post further updates very soon! I myself can't wait to see him with his HAIR! ..and eyes... and of course his teeth! LOL!

Re: Roddy McDowall 1:1 Scale Cornelius WIP...UPDATED

Just a quick update! I'll be able to start molding this next Tuesday! It will take about three days, and there will be one heck of a special guest mold fabricator at my side...More on that soon! Sometimes things happen in the strangest ways! Updates to follow!

Re: Roddy McDowall 1:1 Scale Cornelius WIP...UPDATED

I would LOVE to buy a casting if you decide to make copies available. GORGEOUS!!!!

It's still pretty early in the process, but if you PM me, I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the kind words and interest, Tony!

Re: Roddy McDowall 1:1 Scale Cornelius WIP...UPDATED

After a heckuva time with the molding process, Toby and I pulled out the very first silicone casting yesterday! It was near perfect for the first pull and the mold was great! If weren't for the slightly open mouth, we would have had this update a week ago at least!

Here I am with the newly-pulled Conelius! It was pretty stressfull waiting to see how the mold did.

Toby's powdering the silicone edges here to prevent sticking. It doesn't stick like latex, but it still helps with the edges.

Here's the beginning of the trimming and seaming process. You can see the lifelike skintone of the silicone at this point, but after the painting, it will be even more realistic!

The eye holes and the mouth plug will be seamed and then the eyes will be inserted.

I'll post pics as we go through the rest of the steps toward completion. I am certainly spoiled by silicone and will have a tough time looking at resin the same way! LOL!

A special thanks goes out to my new buddy Toby Sells for showing me the molding and casting process first-hand! If you are going to learn something, learn from the best around! His work is amazing, and I am priviledged to call him friend!

More to come, gang!

Re: Roddy McDowall 1:1 Scale Cornelius WIP...UPDATED

Very nice work, and it seems more than a few people are being spoiled by silicone these days. It definitely adds to the end result.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work. :thumbsup

Re: Roddy McDowall 1:1 Scale Cornelius WIP...UPDATED

Great work--Roddy's Cornelius has always been one of my favorite movie characters, so I can't wait to see how your final result looks!

Out of curiousity, are you planning to paint it up as a realistic ape, or go for a look that approximates a human with ape make-up on?

Re: Roddy McDowall 1:1 Scale Cornelius WIP...UPDATED

Holy Ape Sh-T This is awesome thank you very much for sharing this with us!:thumbsup
