Robot Chicken prop/puppet

I would like make a replica of the Robot Chicken puppet from the shows opening sequence. I have a little experience in hand puppet construction so I'm approaching the task from that perspective. If anyone has anyone tried this, I'd appreciate the input. I'm guessing that the original stop motion puppet is probably no larger than a coffee cup, maybe even smaller. The 'hero' shot of RC with the laser eye might be a 2nd larger construct, but I'm just guessing.

Anyway what I'd like to do is 'super-size' this cyborg capon far beyond 'Studio Scale' to what I'd call "muppet scale", meaning the finished item would be about the same size as a muppet chicken. Roughly 24" tall standing on its feet.

A quick google image search for 'robot chicken' netted me the lame fuzzy image attached to this post. I could use a little help with some screen captures of the chicken in the chair. Any BTS images would be invaluable.

Yeah, I was coming to that conclusion.
I'm just not sure I want to have that around the house for the kids to find.

Don't worry about it. If you corrupt them now it will save you the trouble later. You know it's gonna happen anyway, so at least it'll happen on your terms.....:D

O.K. It has been a while but here is some tiny bit of progress on my Cyborg Capon. This is going to be a large-ish statue, I don't plan any sort of articulation. This will not be a stop motion puppet.

The body is an 8" diameter styrofoam ball ($8 @ Malwart) The head is a 3" ball (2 for $4). I used 3M Super 77 to coat the ball, and wrapped it in this feathery looking boa stuff that I found at the local fabric store. Very tedious and messy business that. In the one picture my finger is wrapped in wax paper to keep it from sticking to the glue.

Next up... I will make facial details from Super Sculpy.

Maybe if someone sculpted and cast all the hard parts, the robotic arm eye and his beak. We could do what you are doing with the styrofoam...

I agree this is a really cool project, im sure alot of my non-prop friends would even want to have one! :cool
