Risu's Star Lord build

I'm curious about your lenses like how many layers or actual lenses do you use? It seems like you have complete visibility through the whole circle. I ask because I'm curious about the technique for an iron man lens. So can the shape or depth be altered and how does visibility happen

I wouldn't call it full visibility. It's a little bit blurry and tinted. It wouldn't work as an overall glow because the gaps between the etching are what you actually see through. If the whole lens was frosted, you'd be pretty blind. It also wouldn't work for white lighting because the colored lens only cancels roughly the opposite color.but if you were using blue or red LEDs, the opposite color lens inside of the LEDs would cancel it out and you could see fine, assuming your etching has gaps.

No further movement on the costume yet. I'm biding my time, hoping the costume will go on display somewhere again or Disneyland will get theirs out in the park. I don't feel like there's good enough reference of the back of the pants or belt to make those 100% right just yet.

Well I'm looking for eyes that I can see through but are lit for a war machine helmet. The red color is perfect so that's not an issue and i dont mind the texture if thats what allows the light to disperse. So could you produce this setup but in a different lens shape? I would also want to know the dimensions to see if this could fit

So today FIDM opened their annual movie costume exhibit, and surprisingly, it's a good one this year.

I'll post more pictures once I've got them sorted, I took a lot of them. I'm going back on Thursday, so if anybody wants me to look at any specific details in the construction, please let me know here. I won't be able to take pictures again, that was a one time deal, but I can look at things and take notes. Oh, and it's the full costume WITH boot rockets and bag. Unfortunately, there's no way to get a look at the back of it or at any of the bag except the strap there. Maleficent and Future Past got the island spots this year, this one is against the wall in the corner.

Oh, and to clarify, I can get inches away from this thing. I haven't really researched the intricacies of this version of the costume yet, so if anybody wants to know some super close up details, now is the time.

Are you able to tell the color of the bag lining Risu? It looks purple in some scenes, but I suspect it's actually brown. I'd love to see any other details shots you can get of the costume.

Unfortunately, it's in the corner of the room, there's no way to see the back of the costume or main body of the bag at all. I'll post a bunch more pictures tonight.

Daniel!!! Selfie Stick!!! Nuff said!

I thought FIDM had strict rules about not taking photos?

Hey let me know when you want to go again I will be HAPPY to attend with you!

By the way I remember ACME brand once said he begged and was able to get permission to photograph the Hatter costume in areas not allowed by others. Maybe we could beg and say we are costume design students!?

Possibly. I don't know when I'll go again, but I'll let you know if I make plans.

And wow, you just gave me the first reason to ever get a selfie stick. They've apparently changed the rules this year, or at least they were allowing photos the whole first week.

OK, here's a cluster of photos. That's about all I've got.

This is a distinctly different pair of pants than the ones at the Galleria before. The corduroy was replaced with a brown moleskin. There's also a third pair of pants I've seen with a purple tinted black moleskin. Each of these is approximately the same pattern with tiny variations.

The gauntlet doesn't appear to be real leather.

Some front details.

Rubber stunt boot rocket.

Right sleeve cuff strap detail.

The inseam of the sleeves is sewn bad side to bad side with a 1/8" seam allowance.

And the lining fabric appears to be screen printed and glued to the back of the leather pieces.

I keep having second thoughts on the color of the trench coat. Combination of Rust and Red or something? Or is it Rust Dark Red ?

Someone want to help me, Please.:lol

Hey you should check out the Hot Toys Star Lord figure if you're looking for more detail or reference shots. They're always insanely detailed and maybe there's a shot that could be of use even though you have things well in hand it seems!

I've looked at the figure a bit. I'm not planning the long coat at the moment, and the pants on that figure are horribly inaccurate. I'm pretty well set with all the pictures I took of the pants on display.
