Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

I find it hard to believe we're going to see a pulse rifle variant or a power loader in Prometheus.

ya i agree, i wouldn't have expected sir ridley would even try to include cameron's work into his film. But from the website, it looks as if there is going to be a cameo at least (background maybe?)

Ridley said from day 1 that the story involved terraforming, and the other items have been listed as Weyland inventions on the company website, in the timeline, for quite a while. Ridley has also been complimentary of Cameron's film in the past, so no surprise.

Some of this stuff may not actually be in the film though. A few of those shots just look like Photoshop/3D art.

It's promotional. They aren't going to release a promotional featurette with people talking about how Ridley smells like an ashtray and that he fondles stunt men. :)

How about something less Ridley and more movie? TP said it best.

"Ridley Scott Would Like People to Tell You How Awesome Ridley Scott Is in New Prometheus Featurette"

This movie could end up being crap. I heard the new Judge Dredd is going to be R, so let's see how awesome Ridley Scott is in his (supposedly) final cut.

Ridley Scott IS awesome.

You know that Indiana Jones line? "He once got lost in his own museum." That's what I thought of after meeting him. He couldn't have been less interested in his guests if you were to meet him on his own accord.

That's not to take away from how he works of course. I have no doubt he's one of the most professional film makers out there and deserves the praise he's been given. But as an average theater audience member who has no back stage privileges, no in-hollywood friends, no invitations to special events, I just want to enjoy what everyone is setting out to do. I want to see the movie. If I want to see something that praises Ridley Scott for miles on end, I'll watch a documentary about it. When I watch Prometheus, I'm going to be seeing not just Ridley's work, but hundreds of other people's work. The actors, set designers, stunt men, visual effects artists, and even the caterers (Nobody gives a crap about the caterers).

There was a lot to see in that featurette besides praise for Ridley. Why focus in and complain about that one part? Why is praise for Ridley something to complain about anyway? I don't care if you were not interesting to him when you tried to meet him. This movies looks outstanding for so many reasons. If you cant get up for this, I don't know what to say. Do you like movies, or complaining about things?

No, I want to see this movie. I'm just not going to see it only because it has Ridley Scott involved. I'm looking forward to it for reasons the cast and crew are not even talking about.

Do you like movies, or complaining about things?
.....Both! :)

But I do try to at least not complain about people who complain about things. This isn't about me, it's about the movie.

Don't forget this part of what I said.

As always we are left with weak contestants fighting for 5th place as opposed to for the win. Tarzan and Christina being prime examples.

Yes, I think if we were going to see shiny Weyland Industries pulse rifles at least one of these fellows would have one. It did occur to me when I first saw these men though, why on earth doesn't at least one of them have an assault rifle of some kind? I certainly would never leave home without them. ;)

Also, for anyone who says the film is too clean, HEY LOOK! There is all kinds of dirt on those doors behind them!!

I'm loving the production design of the interiors.

Just wanted to post this one again, because I think it's cool.

Which was precisely Harrison Ford's problem with Ridley way back on Blade Runner. That's the way he is. Doesn't affect his talents as a film-maker. Cameron's an utter A-hole, and always has been. Kubrick was incredibly difficult. I'm not really seeing how this pertains to their work.

If the film doesn't measure up, it won't be down to any of the actors or crew, or Ridley's lack of social skills, it will be down to the possibility that he doesn't cut it as a story teller any more.

That's what I've been trying to convey here. Yes, he's awesome, but what does that have to do with this movie? Just because he's an awesome director doesn't mean the film in question will be any good. Cripes, I still have flashbacks to that behind the scenes clip of Battlefield Earth where John Travolta brags about getting a call from George Lucas recommending his partner to direct the film... like that was a good thing. And I'd still watch Battlefield Earth over any version of Robin Hood.

What does it have to do with this movie? It has everything to do with this movie since he's the director, and the "visionary" behind it. The reason people are excited about this is because of Scott returning to science fiction, and the movie looks good, and it is part of one of the most beloved series of movies on the planet.

There is nothing wrong with fans of Alien being excited. If it comes out and it sucks, we'll discuss that later on. Right now, we're trying to revel in our enjoyment of the build up and have some fun with it. All the trailers have been good. The TED footage was excellent. The actors involved are amazing. And Scott is an incredible director.

Oh? What else did the actors talk about that didn't involve Ridley Scott?

Jeyl, you know I love ya bro - but I know you know these featurettes are culled from lengthy interviews with the principals - someone in marketing looks at the footage and says, "Let's make Ridley the focus of this one" - so they just edit in the relative bites. Not that those are out of context at all, but let's just take it for what it is: a fluff piece. Personally, I can't WAIT for the DVD commentary - with the team behind it, that's where I think you'll find some real insight.

:cheers

I think the only reason they're pushing Ridley in the featurettes so far is because it's his "big return" to sci-fi. Unlike most films, Ridley's presence has a direct effect on marketing, so they're pushing that angle. Really, if you think about it, there's not much else to push, since they're downplaying the link to Alien.
