Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

I have not been this excited about a movie in so long! I didn't watch any of the leaked bootleg versions, so this was my first viewing.

Floored.

I could see the surface details changing, but the shape and proportions of the part on the left is totally different:

Still, I'd be perfectly happy with the differences if it is supposed to be the same ship.

Here's a thought...

Ridley was recently quoted as saying the SJ we're all familiar with wasn't an organism, but a suit. Perhaps that dude on the right is one of the things that's inside the SJ suit?

Those 2 flat shapes aside the "dude" look a lot like biomechanoïd versions of the hypersleep beds seen on the Nostromo...

I think that is an Engineer (Jockey), It makes sense to have him create man in his own image and that ties into the giant head, its just we've seen the SJ from Alien as a creature/alien as it looks in the chair, I mean why wouldn't we?

ITs disappointing that they may be humanoid in form but I'm sure they are portrayed amazingly well in the movie, you cant make a film like this and have a Jar Jar binks Disaster, I mean the hole industry leaned from that I think.

I still actually dont thin k its the same Ship from Alien, if it is then great but I really dont want it to be constantly linked to Alien as a film just to be a great film is more than enough. I have to say the fake or not so fake synopsis seems to make more sense now I've seen the Trailer. Not sure if its a blag but elements do match.

Nice trailer. Still doesn't give the shivers of the first though. But
that is just because we've seen it before.

Just watched the 79 trailer and it had me sh***ing it! Even though I've seen the film loads of times! The Prometheus trailer, nice as it is, is nowhere near as visceral, and conveys nowhere near the same level of tension and horror. And it's down to the editing, seems to me.

This is either due to the decline in the art of the trailer or a decision to pitch this movie differently. The first film, after all, was designed as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in space. Pure horror, whereas this is something apparently less intense, and apparently requires a less terrifying trailer.

The Prometheus trailer has a calm rhythm, gliding fairly evenly from one piece of eye candy to the next, as is the mode with trailers today. The '79 trailer by comparison is a tour-de-force of paced editing, the cuts beginning long, then becoming ever quicker, the shots getting tighter and more claustrophobic as the thump of the soundtrack builds to a deafening crescendo for the unbearable orgasm of the facehugger springing from the egg. As a trailer, the Prometheus does look a bit pedestrian next to this.

I haven't been this revved up since the pre-Phantom Menace wind up. I'm cautiously optimistic!

I haven't been this revved up about a whole year in general when it comes to movies. I think 1982 was the last year I looked forward to so many movies.

That projected map looks like it's generating in the Space Jockey chamber... wonder if it's their equivalent of "Stellar Cartography"?

Aww. Just when I thought the look and function of the Space Jockey (A being who looks wickedly different and appears to have grown from the chair) was super alien looking is now just a suit worn by a very humanoid looking creature.

That's almost like having the Tholians in Star Trek be regular humanoids who just wear masks. Thank god Enterprise didn't go that route.

Also, could this be him in the wheel chair?

Looks like they found a Jockey, woke him up and our doctors are trying to communicate with him.

A very human Space Jockey + a giant flying saucer glimpsed in the trailer = Mulder & Scully, do you read me ?

Damn, I DON'T want to believe...

Better not be! If Ridley's idea of a good time is to tell us the SJs are just guys in suits then I'll be walking out of the theatre.

Also, sorry but Giger's original derelict paintings beat hell out of the derelict as seen in that screengrab. Hope there's a good reason for ditching Giger bio-wildness - all those sweeping arcs and such - in favour of dull rectilinear surface detailing.
