Ricky Gervais and the Golden Globes...

The golden globes are just a practice for the lameness that is the oscars. Only good part of the oscars is the tribute to the stars who died and were far classier than the ones we have now.

I thought it was pretty tame for RG, actually. I'd love to see what he left out (did see the Hitler bit on Conan).

Two things to consider:

1) Ratings were up 5% from last year. That's a pretty big success.

2) Say what you want about Gervais not being a "star" or whatever but he could buy and sell any of the people in the audience. The Office is on in over 100 countries....and he gets money from every single episode that airs. He is phenomenally wealthy.

I see headlines about "fallout" for RG. That seems absurd. No fallout whatsoever.

I love Ricky Gervais and his style of comedy. He was excellent on the original Office series. I think Hollywood is just to scared to look at themselves and see how silly they really are in the public's eye. That is exactly what Gervais did!

Funny you don't see any flak regarding DeNiro's comment about deportation of "your" waiters (implying the deportation of Mexicans) and Javier Bardem....that is because it was Robert DeNiro and his Cecil B. Globe!

Hypocrites!

Clarification of Hypocrites as in the media............! Not RPFers!

Ricky Gervais | Golden Globes Monologue | Video | Mediaite

There is the video of his monologue....

I thought he was hilarious....my gf and I couldnt stop laughing....he was be blunt...i loved it......it made the awards more enjoyable to watch

"It seems like everything this year was 3-dimensional -- except for the characters in The Tourist," Gervais said. "I haven't even seen 'The Tourist' -- who has?" hahahahaha...tourist jokes were the best....hugh hefner joke was great 2!

edit: looks like he will never host again
"Ricky will not be invited back to host the show next year, for sure," a member of the HFPA tells me, adding that Gervais' relentlessly mean shtick could have even larger consequences. "For sure any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated. He humiliated the organization last night and went too far with several celebrities whose representatives have already called to complain."

This isn't the first time he's hosted this award show. I've seen his standup and his meanness is his schtick. Little brutal at times but pretty funny too. He simply said stuff people are thinking. He made it a fun and memorable night.

Interestingly, admitting to liking Ricky Gervais in the UK is tantamount to confessing you're a paedophile these days. He wore out his welcome here quite a while back

The Golden Globes routine was pretty funny though..

What if you think Russel Brand is hilarious, but you're from the US? I read his "football" columns, and everything, and I'm pretty sure I'm sweet on adults and not children. This is hyperbole, yes? :)

Fighting about humor is a waste of time, it is ALL subjective. One person can find Pedophile jokes hilarious, and another can be offended by a knock knock joke. I have the dry vicious wit sense of humor, so I enjoyed his bit. I think it was a brilliant reversal of "The Invention of Lying", he was being brutally honest in a room full of liars.

Ricky Gervais is a comic genius. I've been a fan of his since his debut as David Brent on the UK Office. Extras was equally fantastic. And to top that off, his podcasts with his mates Steven Merchant and Karl Pilkington (the man with a head like a ***kin orange! :lol) are required listening on any Ipod.

No, let's argue about who's funnier than Gervais:

Gervais is not awful by any means - Russell Brand is - but the over-reaching genius of British TV comedy in the last 20 years is Chris Morris. There's nothing subjective about that - it's been established by science.
