Rework of my Fett Helmet

I decided I'd give my Rubies Fett Helmet the once over and ended up giving it a new paint job, new visor and added some interior padding. I spent more time with the paint colors and weathering and added some interior 'padding' etc. to the inside

Here are some pics of what I did ... for the inside, I essentially followed the layout of the Riddell helmet inside (no sense going with one of those fantastic Marrow Sun kits on a crappy Rubies..). I started with foam from a local craft shop and cut the foam to the desired shapes (lots of cutting and trimming to get the right size and thicknesses) and spray painted them. Then I glued them into place inside the helmet.

Rather than go with a hardhat liner I added more foam pieces until the helmet/foam fit comfy on my head. In the end it turned out okay .

I had to work around my switches and fan which I had already glued in place, but that didn't end up being too big a problem.

The outside paint job:

Looks pretty nice.

great job,

Shadow Duchess, If you get yourself some of the squirrel cage style fans they are actually reasonably quiet and you can actually direct the nozzle side (can't think of the word.. the open side) and direct the air onto your visor keeping it fog free.

The fan is fine and doesn't make much noise at all (a small hum I would call it. I wouldn't say it keeps things 'cool', but it does keep the air moving around so you don't get that foggy/moist helmet head .

Very nice...looks like what the movie prop makers would have intended to use. Very clean and neat. Nice job.

Looks great. Did you seal the paint on the foam with anything so sweat won't make the paint run? I've got a MS interior kit, but I'm not sure what to seal the paints with.

:thumbsup

I hadn't thought of the paint running ... hmmmm.
I wouldn't think they should run once they've setup/cured properly.
Good thought though ... guess I'll find out soon enough ..

the paint wont run, might crumble/flake off but thats it. I have two mini fans from rs, one each side of the visor so it blows across both ways, works great.

BLUERAM

It only took a few hours off and on over 1 weekend with some time in between to let the glue dry on the pieces ... say 5-8 working hours total.

Finally. Another NS on board. Nice to see ya Kent, welcome to the 'show', and even nicer to see how good a rubies helm can look...

NikNak ... yup .. that paint makes the foam a 'little' harder than unpainted foam, but its still pretty soft and comfy .. Haven't got out trooping in it yet though ....

Fargazer,

Do both the switches control fans?

What type of glue did you use to hold the switch casing to the inner helmet?

Thanks :)

itookadooku:
1 switch controls the fan, the other controls two flashing LED's in the rangefinder.
The switches are mounted on a bent piece of sintra that is attached with 5min epoxy to the helmet.

Cheers
