Hello all! I'm currently working on the Resistance Officer's uniform, and want to share my progress and references here! I have not yet seen any recreations of either of these outfits, and am very excited to get to work! I have a soft deadline of 1st March (Just about a month), the first day of Emerald City Comicon in Seattle--I hope to have it at least wearable for my first con of the year, and will likely be making some adjustments afterwards!
Anyways, down to business:
There aren't a great many photos of the officers as seen in TLJ, even compared to TFA, but I've noticed a few differences straight off the bat. Currently leaning toward the TLJ variant...
TFA (and Battlefront II)
TLJ
Other than unifying the color (the TFA coats were many varied shades of brown), the biggest difference is in the construction: the TFA coat has princess seams front and back, where the TLJ coat has a straight seam that goes straight up to the shoulder on the "double-breasted" side, and the right side just has a dart. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any images of the back of the new coat so that I could determine its construction (and if you have any, please do share them!)
I'll be going fabric shopping in this next week to find the perfect brown, aiming toward the TLJ color whichever construction I end up deciding on.
I've already thrifted a pair of boots and subsequently sawed the heels off them, took them in around the calf and ankle (as I have spectacularly twig-like legs), cut off and reattached some decorative belts, and gave them a light wash for weathering. I think I'll make the final decision on darkening them again once the coat is done, as they're currently sitting at a nice medium brown. I neglected to take any before pictures, but I'll share a more current photo next post. I'm pretty pleased how they've turned out (and for only $12!)
