Researching The Merr Sonn Power 5 Blaster

I'm thinking about building this one and was curious if anyone had figured out any of the small parts found on either side of the blaster?

Some thing interesting about the small, rectangular cap on the right side is that it looks a lot like the top part of the Han Solo power cell.

There are other images of this and/or other Merr Sonn that showed a few details:
* The base gun is clearly a cast of the same Mauser and flash hider that was used for Han Solo's ANH blaster — with the greeblies on top of the bull barrel being part of the cast. All other greeblies were added on.
* The top disc on left side is an "Imperial Disc", as on Imperial Officers' caps and belt buckles.

Common beliefs:
* The knobs below the imperial disc are believed to be conical Michell knobs, as on TIE and X-wing fighter chest boxes, on washers.
* The two squares on the right side are electric button switches, with the rear button cap fallen off revealing electrical contacts.
* The plug with coiled cable could be from a microphone for a comm radio.

I came across a rare photo of Leia holding the Merr Sonn and my first thought was that the Mitchell knobs were used on the right side because they come to a point, but I couldn't explain why they were so far apart from the upper, rectangular piece. Now, I realize that the photo had been reversed:

It should look like this:

So there's an "imperial disk" near the top, just below the grill. The conical knobs are farther below the disk. Unfortunately, I can't see much on the right side.
