So I finally got around to putting batteries in one of my Graflex's and testing it out. A few have come without the pilot/ test bulb, so I took one with me to the hardware store to find something similar. In the pictures below the brass colored is the original and the one next to it is what came with a Parks v1 glass eye. The replacements are a little longer but work just as well. I am going to stop at another store which sells a greater variety of bulbs to find a closer match. As you can see this one works, but the original Graflex bulb says 3.8V and the Parks is 4.5V. Im guessing either a 3.5 volt to 4.5 volt would work best. I will update with more information after I go back to get more bulbs.

I went with a Dorcy LED...

I took my Dremel with a sanding drum on it and sanded off the little metal lip. Works like a charm and it's a much prettier white light than the old yellowish incandescent bulbs.

I really want one of these but haven't found it for sale anywhere...

Hey Lichtbringer! Did you need help figuring out how the pointer light works on a GRAFLEX, or the GRAFLEX porn bit? ;)~

Seriously though, if it's the light (on an original GRAFLEX Flash Gun)... Unscrew pointer light lens. Insert good bulb (E10 style or LED equivalent). Screw pointer lens back into place. Undo GRAFLEX clamp lever. Twist and slide lower section out of clamp. Insert 3 good D-Cell batteries (pointy end towards the flash bulb holder). Reassemble lower section into clamp. Lock clamp. Press slide switch forward to turn on pointer light.

That's the one thing I like most about 'lightsabers' that aren't fully converted... you can still use them as Oscar Steiner intended them to be used!

If it's the other...weeelllllll, I'll leave that to your imagination as I presume it's against forum rules to go into particulars on that subject. Suffice it to say, I dare you to Google it. It's out there!

I alway thought it would be a battery indicator testlight - press the red button to check if battery is good. The way the Kobolds do.

Never spend a second thinking regarding the slide switch.

The "eye" is not a test light, etc. Graflex Speed Graphic cameras were designed with press/sport photographers in mind (outdoor shooters). The "eye" is a flashlight to assist with focusing in dark places. Quite ingenious.

Also the red button doesn't activate the light. If memory serves, there's a very small sliding switch on the side that activates it.

Thank you everyone for the wonderful information. I was going to say this thing is really bright, its almost like the bat signal. Yes, the slider activates the light. I was thinking the same about the Kobolds, that's why I called it a test/ pilot light. Makes sense now that you explain it.

I have a 2 x 3 press camera with a bunch of accessories, I would love to take pictures of my lightsabers with one of them being used as a flash. (Weird, I know)
