Red 10?!

Hey everyone,

I recently caught Star Wars on SPIKE TV two days ago and when the X-Wing pilots are sounding off there is a Red 10 and Red 11. To my knowledge there has never been a photo of the wing markings for either of these ships. Has anyone attempted to build an X-Wing with the wing markings for either of these X-wings? Anyone have some pics?

Eric

well truth be told, I don't think any x-wing upwards in number of red 5 has been seen?

someone did do a red 6 xwing using a salzo kit which looks great. but its never been shown on screen how to address the wing stripes for 6-10.

I didn't think any ship above red 6 got screen time or a build. I found it myself thinking of dialogue and images on the screen in a much different way now that studio scale modeling has taken hold of me and was curious if anyone had ever done a build beyond red 6. I guess that is something to think about.

Maybe it is like Starbucks' and Apollo's "purple and orange" squadrons in the old BSG. ;)

Or, just add the roman numeral X on your X-wing's wing. And an XI for Red 11.
;)

Actually, I had a post a loong time ago where I talked about the roman numeral idea for Red 10. It was supported by X-wing Alliance game . . . look at the Z-95 headhunter wing marking in the console area thing.

Way I figured it, broad strip (2x normal width) was equal to "V", and then crossed stripes "X" was "X".

Lancer, they may be in the background in the Battle of Yavin scenes, but if so I can't find them! Got any link to the Salzo Red 6? I would love to see that.

If you look at the original Red 5 you can see how Red 6 would probably have worked - there actually is enough space behind the bar for another stripe. Red 11 would be a struggle though. :lol

There's been some discussion recently in another thread regarding the "red-cockpit" ILM model and whether it is Red 6. There are two published pics of that one which I know of - both show it being painted so it's hard to tell, but from the masking it looks as if it would have to have at least five stripes.

There were duplicate ships with different paint schemes but the same wing markings, so it could be an alternate Red 5, but personally I think it's Red 6. If so then it looks as if the markings really would just have been the same as Reds 1-5.

There is a pic (which was posted on the RPF a while back) with several X-Wings (maybe 10 ish or so) sitting on a desk. As Nwerke, there were duplicate X-Wings (I can remind there were 2 Red 3 and 2 of another one...), and Red 6 was visible on this pic ! I dont know if it's screen used though and they were probably pyro models on this desk, so Red 6 could have been blown up :D and maybe the scene was cut cuz the shot was not good... Who knows ;)

Good ol Jek Porkins. Thanks for the pics and kudos for the nice ship.

The more I think about this I am convinced a line or symbol would be placed on the leading edge area of the markings to denote adding to the count.

my take on this was quite straight forward.

red 1 to 6 is as seen in the films. 7-12 you halve the depth of the red marker lines. and then offset them for the second half

I believe my boyfriend has a picture of Red 10... from the Decipher Trading Card game... lets see if I can find it...

aaaand

this isnt his picture, his might be bigger, but if you can kinda look closely on the front/back of the top foils, its two of these on the left and right top foils...

(the ones seen on the left side, tally marks for 5)

i'll try to get his picture of his personal card up , or retake a picture lol

Thanks Wolfie. Pic's too small to tell if it is a "real" ILM X-wing unfortunately but if you can scan it at high res then that'd be great.

Thanks Lancer for the pics. I have to say I like your "offset" idea best of the ones so far put forward.

I've got an old B&W underside pic of a Red 6 (maybe 7). Looks like the fifth fore/aft red line is attached to the main graphic. Tough to tell. Someone shoot me an email address and I'll send it. :)

I'm tired of trying to "manage this file" and resize it again and again. :thumbsdown

He is off work this Saturday (he works different hours than I, I'm usually asleep by the time he gets home) and we'll see if we can find a better picture, but yeah it was probably a modded picture by Decipher, its just a matter of do you take that as being what it should be, or as canon, and would LFL consider it so.. lol
