Recaster alert : "peacekeeperklingon" on ebay

Back around '92 I made a Ferengi phaser master pattern. Kits were made out of a shop where I worked.

Not only is it a recast but he is also using this photo(a photo I bought and paid for) without my permission.

In addition to recasting this guy is misleading the customer by letting them think they are going to get a 1st generation quality piece(as shown in the photo) with his molds. The piece you see in the picture is one I cleaned and painted.

My photo that he is using:

I'm from Arizona. This seller is in Kingman Arizona and looking at his other items I don't know who he is offhand.

I would ask anyone with information on this person to please contact me via PM or email. Thank you.

peacekeeperklingons reply after I contacted him.

"My apologies. I was given a thumbdrive with
folders for each auction that had photos. I
wasn't aware my boss had used other people's
pictures. I assumed they were photos from when we
were open for business."

In this message he tells me he is a 3rd party seller.

"I'm just a guy at the bottom of the food chain
with the eBay account. I volunteered to host the
auction for a percentage of the sales. I figured
it would be a way to say on payroll a little
longer and make a couple bucks while I look for a
new job. I'm really sorry they used your photo
for the example of a finished product. It wasn't
my doing. I'm doing everything I can to kill the
auction but can't. So the best I can do is stay
on top of the bids and kill them when they are
placed. If you know a way to kill the auction now
that it is under 12 hours just let me know and
I'll handle it."

He has repeatedly refused to identify himself or employer.

I take it you see your tells in his kits. He's admitted to the pics but seemed to stop there. Of course, if he recast it he wouldn't admit it anyway. With him being in Arizona, is it possible he picked up one of your kits from a local source? If so, it might narrow your search down a bit.

I know my master pattern. I can reconize its details in the mold. Mine was the only Ferengi phaser made hollow for electronics and the cavities for electronics are as good as a fingerprint or DNA.

The mold for a ST 3 Communcator looks like it came off one of mine.

His St3 Phaser looks like a copy of a copy of one of mine.

I told him if he sent me pictures of the molds sliced up and useless I would I'd consider the matter resolved.

He agreed to do so in his message sent at 3:34mst.

So just waiting on those pictures.

IF I was still able to do Trek I would ask for the same thing...

In these matters we need to stick together.

Hope he complies.

I never doubted your ability to know your own work. Only an items creator would know all the details. Hope he does what he's promised.

Rich, I would never work with you again but despite that I'd being willing to back you on anything of yours that looks recast...so that should speak volumes on my regard for the practice of recasting. I openly posted that I backed you on the Sidkit issue back before he made his confession. I'll do the same for others as well.

If I can go ultra-fanboy for moment I'd like to recall a quote by Rorschach of the Watchmen,
"An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us."

Hope he does what he's promised.
Thank you Mercury.

A picture peacekeeperklingon sent me this evening.

With luck that's the only mold he had.

You can see the person who made those molds barely wanted to invest any time in them so I think it unlikely that same shop would put any more time into a second set of molds for that piece....but I will continue to do my searches on ebay and elsewhere.

When I say this I also have in mind the fans who are misled into thinking they are going to get a quality piece by the original artist.

Someone said on the other thread that they thought it was New Moon Props. Are they located in AZ?

I don't know. I heard they have had some reorganization. NM has slimmed down their catalogue and I see one of my Klingon insignias that they recast isn't listed anymore. I heard NM was in New Mexico and this guy is from Arizona.

Man, you aren't kidding. They have slimmed down to only a fraction compared to what they used to offer.

He killed the $6 auction but the rest are still going strong including the ferengi phaser

I recognize all of that stuff...its Clint St Laurent and he used to run an online store called Striketeam props.
