Also strangely, quirkily sub-titled "It gets better if you rub some cream on it" :behave
Hi there everyone, another update in the increasingly convoluted guide on how not to build a sonic screwdriver.
Lesson one. That's never going to work...
I would have got more done, but my better half has been nagging me for the last few weeks to fix their work computer. Well someone else had had a go and well and truly fixed it. So format and reinstall Windows, hopefully thisngs will be working properly. I also hid the Internet Explorer icon, after all I don't want to have to do this again!
So what got done. Not much unfortunately. Mostly now this build will consist of trying to get the various parts to fit together, and finishing the machining of some parts, test assembly, wiring installing the batteries.
I have literally as I have been typing, decided that I will remake the gearbox. I was never happy with the design as there was too much misalignment in the various parts, causing the gears to bind. I will draw up the design this week and start the process of making it next week.
What did get done. The slots that allow the claws to engage the emitter have been milled. The switch housing is complete, although there might be a small change as there is currently insufficient clearance for the wiring.
Things that need to be addressed, fabrication of a battery holder, finishing off of the pommel.wiring up the motor and testing.
All in all this has been a frustrating process. The part that has been the most aggravating has been the switch housing. It was known that this would be a problem, due to the change in the motor. This meant that there was a lot less space available, and may well require some remedial machining of the aluminium part of the handle to provide sufficient space for the wiring.
Anyway, here is a short and very boring video of the pockets being milled in the switch housing.

After a brief **thank goodness** I hear you all sigh. Message from our sponsor.
The University of Maximegalon, houses some of the interesting minds, in the universe, not always the brightest though. In a short visit, I bumped into a couple of professors, you know the type, never get invited to interesting parties. Anyway they were quite excited. It seems that they had just come from an after awards party, the winner has been beaten to death with his award, after inventing the infinite improbability drive.
