:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup WOOOOOOOW !!!! :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup
I am looking forward to build this kit!
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah !!!!!!!!!!!!:)

...and much buying of Milliput.

What will folks be using to fill the gaps? :)

I can't believe people are whingeing about the price. It's still a bargain...

I believe I will do what I did with my Tantive IV kit as far as filling of gaps etc. I basically would line up each of the panels and zap them with CA glue, then I reinforced the seams inside the model with 5 min epoxy and epoxy putty.......and the outsides I used squadron white filler which sands down very nicely and can be scribed to match all the panel lines. Being white when it dries is a nice touch as it does prime and paint nicely. I'm going for the ANH paint scheme look which will be basically all flat white tones. I will first paint the entire thing with a black primer. And use either silver tape or a silver spray paint for those parts I intend to light up. I am keeping mine simple, I will only light the engines and the docking bay for my model. I'm also gonna put the tractor beam in the upright position. I know it's not accurate, but I want an ANH feel to it.

Doing studio scale models for a long time now I still cant believe this is under $1000 ... my God man what a piece to add to your collection! great work.

2000 is waaay too many. This ship is big, but not that big. You'd be lucky to get 50 into the bridge and surrounding support tower... and another and 40 on each sidewall, IMHO.

Yeah it's faaar not enough

I put about 150 fibers on my bridges. Unfortunatly, a lots were broken during the construction process. Now only about 105 are working.

And when I take a look at my bridge, 100 fibers it's not enough. So 50... :lol

My ISD is just a bit bigger than RC's and I plan to put about 10000 fibers to get the same effect than the 8ft.

I know 50 can sound a huge amount, I thought the same, but it's nothing in fact. You've spent 3 jours to put 300 fibers, and you are very happy, thinking "wow it will be great once lit" then you turn the lights on and you think " What's the hell, looks like 10 poor fibers ! ****, 9700 more to go..."

Try to count all the tiny holes on the 8ft. Each hole is a fiber. You will be surprise to count sometimes more than 20 holes/cm².

I noticed that alot of the lights on the ESB version SD's were larger than just a typical fiber optic. I think you'd save some time by installing some small LED's in some of the locations rather than trying to FO everything. Then again, I'm lazy. :)

True. And if you look carefully at the brimtrenches details, you'll see the heatsinks with wires for the small bulbs !

Question for you Tox, how did you affix the Fibers to the kit? This will be my first FO project. I assume you:
1) String them through the holes
2) Glue/epoxy the fibers to the inside kit walls (with the strands protruding through the holes)
3) Cut the strands as closely as possible to the outside wall
4) Color the strands as appropriate

Am I on the right track or do I need a new gameplan?

Ostrich, I used CA glue with the fibers and did exactly as you described on my MPC Star Destroyer model. Clipped them and put a dot of red with a sharpie marker on a few of the strands. Worked like a charm. :)

I used silicon then white glue. You can use CA but be careful if you use plastic fibers, they can melt !

Yeah I put the fibers thourgh the holes and then painted the model then shaved them, but it was to tricky since I have a lot of undercuts etc... fortunatly it would be easier on the RC's. If I had to redo the job, I would only drill the holes, paint the whole model then put the fibers flush to the surface !
