With the new defuser circle on the front. Not too bad so long as you don't look at it up close. I've got all the bugs out of head building that when I decide to do a second one next year, it'll look so much better..

I also tried to sand down the front of the lights so they blur together a bit more as paul suggested. I dunno if the result worked or not...

Current news, I found out our company regularly goes to a metal fabrication shop. So, not only will I be sending them the coin return for profesional cutting, but I also sent them club blue prints for an R2 center foot. We'll see what the price is and how well it'll turn out before looking into getting other parts made in the future

Great thread. Definately on my "grail list" to build one but the time I get old. That way I have something to case the kids off my lawn with. Keep the pictures/updates going.

Looks like the metal shop will do the coin slots, and tommorow I'll get an estimate on what the center foot will cost to do. hopefully not much, and I can see about getting the legs and other feet done as well!

Current dome status. Just missing the radar eye (come on astro spares ;o) ). You can see a bit of the over done hole from the psi drilling. No matter where I put the square, some of the hole was showing, so that seemed like a compromise.

This side, I think, came out the best. I'm going to get the worlds tinest chizel to try and get some of that extra weld gunk out from underneath the panels...

I still need to get some bumps for the back. I saw something at sears hardware the other day that might work, but not sure about the size. They where only a $1 each so it won't be wasted money to find out .
The three dead lights are still there in the back PSI, I Haven't gotten around to messing around with that just yet...

The top, I think, came out the smoothest, despite the HP being moved over one spot. I think I'm happiest with how the top came out.

The back came out the worst. It looked clean when I placed it in the spot. but when I came back, I noticed the JB weld had dropped down from the panel..... Now it's going to be chizel work to get it to look right. The panel on the right also juts out a bit, but that was because I didn't add weld to one spot and it didn't glue itself on..... I'm going to try and carefuly fix that later...

All in all, for a first try, it didn't turn out that bad..

No update on R2. I'm hoping my Frame will be here by May first. Hoping my Welder will give me good news on the feet soon....and I think I'll start working on the skins by taking them all apart and priming them

one set of skins done for the day..... Maybe I'll start the second set later.... I started to cut them with a dremel cuttng tool, but lost the tool as it flew off.. then switched to a saw

I finally got the coin slot tabs removed without loosing a finger. Although i did almost drill my finger nail off trying to get the dremel sand disk hole enlarged so I could put the screw in the center...

Both sets of skins done after 4 hours. I think I got all the parts off that need to be off. All i need is the utility arms and side vents now.

No real update on the droid. I'm still awaiting sale on the radar eye. Apparently Jag is going to do some legs in 2012 if my other leg option doesn't pan out. And my body should hopefully ship be fore the end of May so I can at least get the head attached and rotating.

Considering it took three weeks to get, and I only got one, I'll take what I can get . It looks great though, made out of stainless steel. Too bad they didn't have time to make the feet or other two!

R2 update...

If I'm really lucky, my body will ship within two weeks. checking the run, all slots are taken and only two people are awaiting payment verification.


I bought a set of Jag NPC Foot Drives. those'll take a while to get here. which is good, cause the Bank account needs to be rebuilt.

And I may have scored my first cheap part, resin utility arms. That just leaves two more coin slots and side vents to complete the body. The skirt will take a few months to get here as well.

now if only astro spares would come out of hiding, I can find out what is going on with my radar eye

well, looks like my parts won't be coming any time soon, but at least I got updates on 'em.

Radar eye should be shipping in two weeks. Frame will be here in another three. Skit, probably same time frame. With any luck, I will be able to have it MOSTLY assembled body wise by the time June is done.

I once started on a aluminum droid but had to sell it. Nice work on yours though!
I began working on a all fiberglass R5 but who knows maybe I'll get back to making a metal droid like yours because seeing the sweet looking metal in your build makes me want to try again.

BTW, what kind of wire can I get off of amazon that is the super thin twistable type? I ripped one part off trying to lift up the switch, cause the wire is so short. All the stuff at radio shack is too thick...
