well, first mistake. I mis judged the hole depth will have to fill it. found the right screw, drilled the right size.. First screw test fit a success... need three other screws same size...and need to find a way to judge the hole placement from eye to dome for remaining three. first is always easy :)

It took a bit of trial and error, and will take a bit of epoxy filling to fix...but all four holes are in and fitting... When I get back next week, I'll fill in the holes, sand, repaint, redrill and finalize...

the head will be done minus a radar lens

metal astro spares radar eye secured.. head is more or less done.

Got all but half the parts for the leg. Just need two outer feet, utility arms, deep pocket vents, and all the parts needed for r2's outside wil be taken care of. then it's the 'fun ' part of the electronics to make him move.. anyone know what i'll need there?

Total R2 cost, $4859. 80% metal.

Totally awesome! It's always been a dream of mine to build an R2. Not sure if I missed it but Where did you get the domes if I may ask? I figure the head is a good place to start.
Keep up the excellent work!

Looks like some great parts and a good build going.

Mine is all finished, but I need the rear logic display lights and a good soundboard.

Do you know if anyone makes aluminum door surrounds. The two large front doors on the right and left - I need the surround that goes around the door.

I am looking to start mine very soon and I am glad you posted this up.

Yours is looking great and I will continue to follow with high interest.

The Eye still needs some sanding and one final paint to try and smooth it all off. I wound up chipping off the last paint job and starting all over. I also need to wait a day for epoxy to dry and the holes to be filled up.

Its all coming together nicely. It already looks like R2. Great job so far, keep going!

Your pics of the project are an awesome journal. I have always been intrigued as to how to go about building an R2. Now I have an idea of all the time and effort it takes. I just joined, and even though I am doing it more for references on my rocketeer project, I will be keeping an eye out on your progress.

now that the head is done, going to try and arrange all of them into one video construction tutorial. hopefully it'll help confused newbies like myself , who don't have the time, patience, or google search wizardry needed to find the required info :)

I think i may be missing parts for the utility arm section...gotta figure out how that goes together next...

Wow, Neil. So glad to see this coming together! You have documented this phenomenally, and I can't wait to see the finished result.
