R2-Q5 Internals

Good day!

I'm looking for any references to R2 unit internals. I'm designing a costume of a force sensitive scavenger and one of the things I want him to have is a hat/helmet made from a disabled R2-Q5 style droid. I'm trying to find out what components might be hanging out of the dome, were one to aggressively remove it (remove it, with a lightsaber). My Google-fu is usually strong but I'm failing to find any cutaway shots.

It's an airplane gyroscope, though not sure which plane. I know someone will chime in with the info though.

Otherwise... I don't know that there's any real references for what's inside the dome, in-character. The real costume had Kenny Baker's head in there of course. And if you follow the various attempts over at AStromech.net to fit all the different gizmos inside R2's head in a modern build, you quickly realise that there's a lot of film magic going on there.
