Now with my 00 still intact, I am gonna hunt that Tholian Commander.....
OOT, I just saw a JB car toys:
1. Remote control car, about 4in long. The controller is on the wrist watch. Available for GF DB5, SF DB5 (which has no difference except the box), and TSWLM esprit (but not submersible).
2. Bigger replica (about 10in) with 4 buttons on the top. It triggers front machine gun, back plate, front and back lights, lighted machine guns and back plate, SE sounds and most important (last button): JB theme. Available model DB5 GF and SF, Vanquish DAD.
Has anyone see those? Is that worth buying? It was all plastic, and not too cheap, yet not too expensive.
I got the metal vanquish and esprit. I missed my chance to buy metal DB5, and my big and small CORGI were destroyed.

I was really impressed, last time I it was on network TV in the 80s! :lol
I loved the H2H combat, its fun to watch a real fight where everbody isn't Jet or Neo for a change

1: Goldfinger... Although FRWL is a VERY close second. Goldfinger is mostly for the nostalgia, it's my dad's favourite. If it weren't for that influence I'm sure it would be FRWL with GF right after.
2: IIRC = If I recall correctly.
Liking this "M" thing... I've always signed emails as "~M" I see a new persona coming on!
So a Rocket Launcher/Stinger should be called an exploding tube? You're silly.
Only if you don't say that Bond was awesome at his job in Skyfall.

Um. Glad you can enjoy it. Even as a tyke in 1971, I suspected there was some seriously offensive caricature there.On the bright side Wint & Kidd were fun to watch.
Very different portrayal than how they are in the book but a fun take.

I can never decide if Bond ruthlessly tracking down Blofeld in the PTS is just Operation Bedlam continued fr TB, or revenge for Tracy. M's comment about "getting back to some honest work" hints to the latter. Some fans like to think DAF is a sort of burnt out Bond, unfeeling towards any woman....

No more offensive than they were in the book.
I definitely saw it as revenge. But it disappeared almost immediately. Bond doesn't act any differently towards women in DAF that I can see.
Nope. But he's definitely true to his character. Fact of the matter is that if he was always getting things right these films would be REALLY dull...

I got curious on your comment and saw FRWL for the first time.
My comments and questions:
1. Film pace was rather slow. Almost like coming from a short story then dragged into a full length movie.
2. Tania was really beautiful for SC/GL era! Second from Dianna Rigg (IMHO).
3. Belly dance sequence is much, much better than in TMWTGG :love.
4. Why is it that I felt TLD is somewhat a remake of FRWL with more twisted storyline? Defected agent from Russia, almost the same look for the assassins (Grant vs Necros), cool sniper rifle.
5. SC/Bond character is very strong in here, I like it :thumbsup.
6. Very last scene with the hand throwing the film and waive, WTH was that?
7. I don't get the gold coins. Why equipped every 00 agent with gold coins?
8. Venice: SC ended up with Tania, Moore met Holly, Vesper died in DC era. Is there something special about Venice?

Yep. The films in general were a lot slower then, but FRWL is a Cold War thriller, rather than a slam-bang actioner the way the later films become.
Agreed. Daniela Bianchi was STUNNING. Although, personally, I love me some Luciana Paluzzi. mmmmmmmmmm......

EVERYTHING is better than TMWTGG with, perhaps, the exception of some of the stunt work.
Actually, for analogies, I'd say that the progression is FRWL --> FYEO --> TLD. Similar to how the progression goes YOLT --> TSWLM --> MR. Each one builds on conventions it lifts from the previous iteration.
In FRWL, you have the macguffin as very similar to the one in FYEO (a code machine). In TLD, you have the "Whose side is he on?" element lifted from FYEO, but no code machine.
Yep. The film is almost exactly like the book, with one or two exceptions (and one big one at the end...), so Bond is far closer to his ruthless, tough literary persona.
Movie lameness. Look at it this way. It's tame by comparison to some of the later godawful moments in the series. (e.g., the slide whistle ruining one of the coolest auto stunts in the series.)
If he gets robbed or mugged, the gold coins will be accepted anywhere. It's gold. Doesn't matter where its from. By contrast, paper money might be treated as worthless. But solid gold? 50 coins worth? That's some serious value, anywhere you go.
It's scenic, romantic, and "different" in that it offers possibilities for a different style of shooting due to the waterways as main thoroughfares. There's nothing special about it for Bond, though, outside of what you mentioned. At least, as far as I know.
A quitter?
That's always been a part of his character. Self doubt, feelings of abandonment, thoughts of missing out on "real" life. However in the end fierce loyalty to his "friends" always pulls him around. In the end he comes back, so he's not a quitter, he just took some time off.
Keep in mind this is a Flemming Bond more than it is a Broccoli Bond.

If by that you mean a carefully crafted spy story then yes. Modern audiences are too ruined by exciting explosions every second scene and it's at the expense of good film making. FRWL is one of the finest crafted films of the 1960's IMHO. The book itself is one of the longest Bond books.

In one of a few objectives yes. EVERYONE fails. Not the first time and won't be the last.
You clearly seem to have a problem with this character being human.
The bad guy doesn't fail. He wanted to kill M, and he succeeds. The fact that he got killed by Bond is pretty irrelevant since it didn't stop Silva from completing his task, and he wanted to die anyways.
Also, M succeeds in not having Mi6 dismantled.
On the contrary, I felt that Craig's Bond was a very human character in Casino and Quantum. When someone actually died in his Bond films, you can tell he took it seriously. All he did regarding Sévérine's death was make a quip about the drink on her head. If this is your ideal human, you might want to reprioritize your standards since Bond isn't good at keeping people alive, let alone care if they actually die. When he takes the destruction of his company car more seriously than the cold blooded murder of woman who literally gave her life in helping him capture a criminal, he's not someone I would want to depend on for anything.
To be honest M killed herself by not disclosing that she had been wounded. Keep in mind as well that the goal was to get Silva, not necessarily to save M (although it was an objective). They used her as bait and she agreed. Don't know if you've ever been fishing but the bait usually doesn't make it.
You mean the woman who caused the cry for it to be dismantled in the first place? Ya, she put up a good fight, but if it weren't for Q releasing Silva in London nothing she said would have mattered. I got the distinct impression that she was able to convince Mallory and in the end he's the one that saved MI6.

You're still upset that a professional killer didn't cry himself to sleep over a woman he knew for one evening who was killed by the bad guy? Besides, the point of that scene wasn't that he didn't care. His actions just prior to her death show that. He was putting on a brave face so as to not show that he was affected. VERY much in character.

You're trying to create a straw man here and it isn't working. I merely said that he was human. Meaning he makes mistakes. He has flaws.
This is nothing new. Like anything else it's hit and miss. This is very plain to see in all the novels and films. Where are your tears for Quarrel? How about anyone else that has helped him, been offed, and then he's moved on far too quickly?
He didn't seem to care that the car was pumped full of bullet holes just prior to the explosion. Something that he completely accepted when he got in there to fire the machine guns. If it weren't for the music cue and the audience's attachment to the car it would have just been another tool destroyed. As for the girl you keep obsessing over she would have been killed once the job was done anyway and he knew that. Would it have been nice to save her? Sure. But not important to the job.
I'm going to guess at this point you've never read the novels. Do yourself a favour and don't. You'll hate them.
In DAF Tiffany Case is the daughter of the mistress of a wh*** house who was gang raped and then swore off men. Bond uses her and plays with her emotions to get inside the gang and accomplish his mission. In the end she thanks him for it.
I've said it before and I'll said it again. If you're looking for a character that has nothing but the deepest respect for women you're in the wrong franchise. Stop demanding that Bond be something he isn't.
