Question:Model Kit or Finished item??

I am currently at the early stages of , hopefully, an online store.:$
(def no recasts here, btw)

What I'd love to know from people on here, is if they would prefer:

1: A basic, Do-it-yourself resin kit, which would need the usual finishing

Or

2: A more costly finished piece, painted up etc ?

Its a tricky question to assume an answer , as some people love the idea, and have the skills, to buy a cheaper 'kit' and do it themselves. Others would like a finished piece as they havent the modelmaking skills etc.
I guess its also a costing issue- I have seen, in my opinion, quite high prices for some things, so are people happy to go the extra £$ for a finished 'under the radar' piece?

Let me know, I'm very interested in your opinions..
Should I even offer both 1: + 2: ??

Offer kits.

If someone does not have the background to assemble and complete it, there are always members here that can for reasonable cost.

The only way you can make everybody happy is to offer both.

I would prefer kit versions for 2 reasons. 1) cheaper costs. nothing wrong with saving a few bucks when you can. 2) I'm a modeller. I love to build and paint. Plus I get the option to finish the kit as I see fit.

But, there are people here who don't have the time, skills or means to build and paint a kit. They'd prefer to pay a little more to have a fit and finished replica to display.

So by only offering one or the other, you chance eliminating a decent size of your potential customer base.

Yes, definitely, offer both. If you offer only one version, you are losing potential customers from one side or the other. And as far as business expenses go, it really doesn't take much more of an investment to make both versions available.

Just make sure your kit instructions are well-written with good clear illustrations! That's almost always the weakest link in the chain when it comes to kits.

Good luck with your venture.

I prefer as a kit , I like doing them. That is the fun part of prop. well half the fun. Other half is the buy form pro.:cool

Kits please.

I like to stack them on the shelf, never build them then sel lthem off later.

Come on ......you know that's what most of us do.

I agree with Gig, Plus having pics of painted and unpainted is always good to give the customers an idea of what could be done or done better or just how much it would be worth shelling the extra to have you finish it!
